Hi - I'm wanting to do an engine oil and filter change on a 2008 avensis 2 litre d4d, 126bhp (1AD-FTV engine type)

What sort of tools do I need to remove the oil filter casing and the sump plug?

cheers

To remove the sump you need a 10 or 14 mm spanner or socket. Use the socket as its much better. To remove the oil filter you need a filter wrench or the rubber one which is a strap that gets tight when you pull on it.

Sump plug is 14mm.

A 3/8ths bar or 14mm socket (depending on age/engine) will undo the bottom of the filter housing so you can push the plastic drain tube into the housing.

When oil drained from housing you will need a 63mm ( if i remember correctly) filter cup to remove the housing. You wont get a filter strap on far enough to get a good enough grip on the housing i dont think.

When housing and filter element removed make sure you change both rubber seals and refit.

Dont over tighten or it will be a pain to remove next time.

Mart.
