Dear unknown age SQUEALYHEALEY frae Cheshire.

We need to clear up a slight misunderstanding. The RAV4 is deemed to have 3 doors - with the third being the slice of metal at the back that opens on 2 set hinge on a horizontal plane.

If the 2 hinges had been at the top edge and the metal panel opened in a vertical plane, then it would be deemed a hatchback with 2 doors. Subtle I know, but as I've lived in Cheshire for 10 years, I know these things can be confusing :P :P :lol:

The 7 seat crashcar is a 'backdoor' way of ensuring you get rid of excess kids before they grow too old/big. An ingenious idea. I removed the rear seats on my RAV for the same purpose.

Now, I read the Telegraph article very slowly, and saw no mention of a 6th door, but perhaps I was reading the Scottish edition?

As it is, the world is abundant with 5 door vehicles - even buses only have 1 opening door for 50+ people so why do RAV4s need 5 doors......I mean!! Its an excessive use of hinges and will undoubtedly lead to a world shortage. Just imagine - it could lead to gull-wing opening front doors to your house! Hinge Insurance is set for a ten-fold premiums leap as the hinge market opens up.

Perhaps we should all do what you have evidently done - welded up the rear 'door' to result in a perfectly acceptable 2 doors.

Sounds like the motor industry is really getting unhinged again.

Just think of the good this will do for the WD40 industry keeping them lubricated. I thought there was a world shortage of oil.
