Hi guys!

Decided i need to renew the MAF meter but just wonderin how difficult a job this is? Can buy one for 115 quid to get it fitted will cost me 200.Not done any DIY " mechaniching" apart from removing the sensor and cleaning it.D'ya think it would be beyond my expertise and where might i find instructions.I have a 2000 Celica 1.8 vvti.

Thanks!

If you are buying a replacement, then fitting it is no different to putting the old one back after cleaning. If you've cleaned it before, then you know what you are doing.

Just make sure you don't have the engine running when you replace it, as you'd get the management light come on.

Thanks Edwardio, but I thought the sensor was just a part of the whole air flow meter and therefore more complicated? I'm confused. . .

the whole AFM should be an easy enough replacement, disconnect the pipe to the air filter from one end, the pipe to the intake at the other and disconnect the loom, to fit the new one do the reverse.

there minght be a few clamps or screws, however, a basic tool kit would see you through

What seems to be the problem anyway?

Engine warning light illuminated.Took it to a garage and they initially said the Llambda needed changing which I paid 200 quid for only for the light to come on again a week or so after.Took it back, they diagnosed this time that its the air flow meter that needs replacing.cause of the expense i did some of my own research on here and decided to try cleaning the sensor myself, which, surprisingly to myself was a doddle but still has not solved the engine warning light problem as it is still lit up.

Would welcome any input !

Try reseting the warning light(disconnect the Battery for a short while)what fault code are you getting? You could try changing the afm

  • 2 weeks later...

Well...

No engine light illuminated anymore! Disconnected the Battery as you suggested and so far so good... Has been a few days now so, hopefully, problem solved.

Thanks!!
