hi guys

recently i went to a Toyota garage to replace my pads and disks

they charged me 100 pounds an hour for 3 hours of labour on my brakes

(in total it was about 715 pounds)

i believe i was overcharged big time

how much did they charged you for labour when you last paid them a visit?

thanks for all your help

you sound like you've been overcharged.

I'm sure there is a "standard price" for this work which is advertised by Toyota.

Maybe someone reading this has a copy of the prices and can help out.

Labour charges in Surrey, England are currently £95 + VAT at 15% giving a total of £109.25

per hour. Toyota here have a fixed price for replacing front brake pads on an Avensis of £100 (includes parts, labour and vat), but I've no idea how much new disc's would cost, as they've needed replacing on any of the Toyota's that I've owned.

this only applies to participating dealers only. Toyota do NOT own the franchised dealers, some dealers especially in the south of the country would lose fitting at that price, Then how many participating dealers are there in Romania????

I had my rear disks/pads replaced at Toyota at Queensferry (Cheshire) and labour + parts came up at £ 230 in total. Very reasonable compared to what the OP mentions. They charge £ 73 (VAT incl.) per hour for labour. This is why I do not see the point of going to independent garages as the difference in labour cost is not that great (no garage around would charge less than £ 50 per hour and you do get the Toyota warranty should anything goes wrong).

Cheers,

Jordan

i had my frony brake pads changed by my friend who owns a garage and is a mechanic , the pads cost me £25.00 and he charged me £10.00 , it took him 20 mins to change the pads , he stamped my service book and used genuine pads to keep the warranty up tp date ,, i will never understand why people bring there cars to main dealers for wear and tear maintenace like tyres pads etc

I would be interested in the part number of the Genuine pads for £25?, and on the basis of £10 for 20 minutes, it means his labour rate is £30 an hour INC VAT??? I think you were charged "Friends prices" a full franchise dealer has all the costs associated with running a Toyota Centre and would not be able to charge that sort of labour charge, otherwise the doors would close at the end of the week. We will have a deal with anybody to get the work, but running a local garage and running a full franchise dealership are two completely different business models and just cannot be compared to each other

Strangely enough my local dealer quoted me £127 for my 50k service.

My local independant quoted £150 for the same service.

@ parts king , exactly my point , toyota cant compare to smaller garages with price and yes i did say a friends garage, ive just come back from toyota main dealer where i live , complaining of a rumble at 1500 revs , they had the car 7 days and told me nothing was wrong with it ,had to take car back as they have had it in 4 times in the last 2 mounths ,, toyota "mechanics" are basically just replacers , diagnostic and replace part, if my car wasnt under warranty it would be no where near them,£96 an hour labour?????????do doctors , nurses policemen get that????

Of course they dont get £96 per hour, but the solicitor I just visisted wont get the full £170 per hour they are charging me either. My point is you cant compare small garages with very low overheads to a full dealership that has a new shiney showroom, a fleet of demo and loan cars, etc etc. But like everything else in life there are good and bad "Fred in the shed" garages and main dealerships. You have to find what is right for you and "Haggle" with prices
