Hi

I recently purchased Corolla G6R (1999) which came with only 1 set of keys. I have sourced a local locksmith that will do a replacement set (key & fob) for £45 and £50 respectively. However I have found this on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=260329212368

Which is key & fob as one unit, will I be able to reprogram this myself and save $$$'s. Or am I dreaming?

please help.

Regards

each key that came with the car has its unique transpoder (located in the key itself) which deactivates the immobiliser for that particular car. so the replacement key wont be able to do jack except for unlocking doors.

the only way around that is you get toyota to cut and reprograme the keys for you, but be prepared to pay $$$ for their service!

But apparantly these transponder chips can be reprogrammed by locksmiths. Even the ones on eBay if you buy one with transponder chip in, there is a way to reprogram them with your car.

I googled it, and found this. Might be worth a try:

For 1998+ Toyota, Lexus

Add Duplicate Key

1. Simultaneously depress and release brake and accelerator pedals 1 time.

2. Insert existing master key into ignition.

3. Within 15 seconds depress and release accelerator pedal 5 times.

4. Within 20 seconds depress and release the brake pedal 6 times and

remove key.

5. Within 10 seconds insert new key into ignition.

6. Within 10 seconds depress and release the accelerator pedal 1 time.

7. After 80 seconds new key is registered and security light goes off.

8. Remove new key and depress and release brake pedal 1 time.

For 2002+ Toyota, Lexus

Add Duplicate Key

Requires one working Toyota/Lexus Master Key.

1. Make sure all doors and windows are closed.

2. Insert Master key into the ignition cylinder.

3. Cycle the ignition cylinder from On to OFF five times.

4. Open and close the driver side door 6 times.

5. Remove the Master Key and insert the new duplicates key.

6. TURN THE IGNITION CYLINDER ON.

7. The new key will be registered after 60 seconds. The THEFT light on the dashboard will go out, indicating that programming has been completed.

Thanks for that.

I have seen something similar to that before. Anyone confirm that they got this method to work for both remote fob (for alarm) and immobiliser key?

I am going to try getting duplicate made from a motoring accessories shop I know that said might be able to do it. If I fail, I am just going to go down the DIY route and try the instructions given here.

Thanks

Right fellow people!!

I managed to get the car into programming mode using the set of instructions below. I get to step 8 which confirms the new fob has been added, however when I then try the remote, nothing happens!!

Anyone had same experience?? I have tried it with 2 fobs and both are doing the same. I did step C3 to check how many fobs already programmed, and it came back with 2. Not sure how many can be programmed, but could it be that it's already at max capacity? I daren't do B2 which will erase all programmed fobs incase I can't add it back on again.

Procedure

1. The vehicle should be in the following condition:

A. The key is NOT inserted in the ignition.

B. The driver's door is open.

C. The driver’s door is UNLOCKED.

2. Insert the key into the ignition switch and then pull it out.

3. Press the Master Door Lock Switch (this would be the switch IN the car) 5 times from Lock to Unlock.

4. Close the Driver's door then open it.

5. Repeat step 3.

6. Now select the mode by inserting the key into the ignition switch and turning it to the Run or On position. The programming mode is determined by the amount of times you go from key off to the key on position and back before pulling the key out.

A. 1 time is the Add mode. This is used only on some models and it allows you to add a remote to the already existing remotes. The ECU confirms this by locking and unlocking the door locks automatically after you remove the key.

B. 2 times is the Erase mode which will erase all previously programmed remotes and allow you to program new ones. The ECU confirms this mode by locking and unlocking the door locks twice after you remove the key

C. 3 times is the third mode which tells you how many remotes are already programmed to the ECU. It confirms this locking and unlocking the doorlocks the amount of times applicable to the remotes coded. If no remotes are programmed then the ECU locks and unlocks the door locks 5 times. The ECU will hold up to 4 remotes at any one time.

7. Press the Lock and Unlock buttons on the remote simultaneously for 1.5 sec and then press either button by itself for 1 sec.

8. The ECU will perform the Lock/Unlock automatically to confirm that the 1st remote is stored by the ECU. Repeat step 7 immediately with another remote and continue until all remotes are registered.

9. Shut the driver’s door and try all remotes.
