20,000m mile service today :D ....ickle Aygo sailed through it of course, everything checked out OK!! £178 - is this a fair price??

Looking back at my 'second service cost' thread this appears to be about the going rate - one post on there for £169. Ours is due in early January, but we haven't called for a price yet.

I've managed to get an inusrance quote for £180 plus £45 cashback via Quidco which is more than acceptable.

Seems pricey to me.

The service on my CTS is only £127 from Mr T ;)

Just had a 20K service .

With a little haggling & two phone calls to other dealers I got the price down from £210 + £49 (at my local dealer) for the brake fluid change due at £20k or 2 years = total £259

I got it at the local dealer in the end for £181 all in, Service and Brake fluid...not bad really as southern prices ( Surrey) are the highest in the first place.

I was quoted something stupid like £270 from the two dealers near me. I haggled and got it done for £200, this included break fluid as the car was 2 years old.

I have a servicing plan with my Toyota dealer for the first 3 services including MOT at 3 years old for £360 all in, seems good value.

Taking mine in on the Wednesday for its 3rd service, £131

Thats at RRG Toyota Altrincham, South Manchester

Seems a good price compared to what others have been quoted...

Toyotas own 3-year / 30,000 mile - service plans are £279

The dealers can be difficult when you ask for these plans, but they should all have them available and accept them.

And unlike other service plans, the Toyota one includes oils etc.

So I've paid nothing extra for the first two services!

Both our local dealers have quoted £185 excluding brake fluid and state it takes 2-2.5 hours.

What is extra over the first service?

I've searched and searched... but am still not sure..

..does the Aygo has a cambelt or a timing-chain?

I don't own an Aygo.. we're weighing up whether to buy one, and such things enter my mind when thinking about future servicing costs.

Thanks.

Timing Chain.

Services seem to be (a rough average of what I've seen on here)

At Toyota......

£100.00

Then £175.00

Then £100.00 again.

Timing Chain.

Now I'm not so sure about it being a timing chain, as Honest John seems to imply a timing "belt" for the Aygo they look at ........ although it does come first in the top-ten small hatchbacks as voted by readers.

What to Watch Out For

Water leaks into load area via extractor vent. Have also been water leaks into load area and rear via misfitted rear door and hatch seals or rear light seals, otherwise reader feedback so far very positive.

'Whirring whine' from 1.4HDI may be failing timing belt tensioner, which is a roller bearing device like the idler pulley, but with a reddish rubber/nylon damper. Gates cambelt kits include this part. Wise also to replace waterpump which it driven by the timing belt

One report of a transmission oil leak.

Exhaust back boxes may only last 2 years before rusting through.
