Fuel Treatment

My wife collected our Aygo from our local Toyota dealer after it's 20000 mile service. The dealer wanted to add a fuel treatment for £15. My wife refused after consulting me.

Has anyone else been offered this stuff at a service? If so, what is it?

I'm assuming that it's just injector cleaner that I could probably get from Halfrauds for about £5.

U & ur wife are correct. Fuel treatment cleaner is not in the service schedule. It's entirely your discretion. If it ain't broke...

If you go into Halfords there are 2 types you can get. 1 is just Fuel Injection Cleaner, which is around £5 and needs replacing every 3k miles. Then there is Full Fuel System Cleaner, this is about £15 and needs replacing every 4k miles.

I use them all the time, even though I try to use S/Unleaded as often as possible.

They are not needed, but if you use them, you will notice a difference. A cleaner engine runs better overall.

a lot of modern performance fuels eg optimax have a lot of the benefits cost wise around the same looking at the price premium of performance fuels.

i don't think injector clogging and engine deposits are the problem they used to be

Did you see top gear (yeah I know) when they were trying to spice up a renault people carrier thing? They got about 40 lost bhp back just from replacing the injectors iirc.

I chuck some in every oil change which I do at 6000 miles. Prevention is better than cure etc etc :)

Best thing to do is avoid supermarket petrol and try not to run your tank too low.
