Cams

Replacing the cams will improve the power and torque as per the advert, the driving charecteristics will be similiar to the way they are now i.e lift at 6,200 RPM.

Its pretty complex engine work so the labour cost will be significant and it wouldnt be something i would have done by someone who wasnt 100% sure of what they were doing.

As for running costs i cant see it making much difference TBH.

Hows it going,

If you get any further info on this mate let me know. Ive been hunting around for info on the stage two grind for these cams for ages but have drawn a blank in every direction. Were all running timing chains so, like cab said previously, there are going to be pretty painful labour costs. Im just trying to fnd someone who has had this done because im mad keen to get a set for myself  .

These kits will have two cams, a new low and a new high, both upgrades over the original corolla sticks, but if yor going for the 285 degree or higher durations, you can probably expect a lopy tick over when idling. But that will only let everyone else know your motor isnt stock spec  looking at the dyno runs at monkey wrench racing on these cams they dont seem to have any trade off power loss anywhere on the range and add some much needed torque.

Keep your ear to the gound mate, let me know if yoy come across any info!

Cheers!

i want to know more! They seem to add a lot of power on those graphs... combined with basic modifications getting some real gains can be achieved. Someone find out how much labour is involved!?!?!

I will try ringing Ai Autosport up near me, they were the guys that fitted my flywheel and quick shift kit.

Id definately recommend them, they heard of them on a recommendation from a mate, and id certianly pass that on to anyone else in the area.

I did mention to them about a cam install wheile the car was with them for the flywheel and shifter, they said that a cam swap wouldnt be a problem at all so long as it wasnt a timing chain set up. I said (at the time is wasnt sure, now ive looked further the 2zzge has a chain) i wasnt sure. He said a timing belt cam swap would be no problem at all, but if its a chain they would need to have the car to take a look as it was a lot of work...

So im just waiting to hear a 12 hour install or something, which would price it out of the equation.

Ill post again here whn i get a chance to phone them and enquire further..

I think...we should all look into this, find a place who will do it cheap...get the cams installed together from one place for a group discount and also order the cams in bulk whoever wants to buy them well also get a discount. It is a thought as it is a very good power upgrade and we will keep the car NA

I know a place called Style and Performance that are very good and will fit cams no problem for a decent price. They are in Wavendan, Milton Keynes and I know that they are good because that's where my dad goes to get his car parts fitted, and I'm sure that you'll be able to get a decent group discount!

no way it must be a 2 hour job MAX. anything more than that and they either dont know what they are doing or are trying to rip you.

im sure it can be done in your garage with enough time and effort taken.

will it require any further work like a remap?

If you want to unlock the maximum potential of your cams and engine then yes, you do need a remap and I think you'd need one anyway because the whole engines timing is different.

And it shouldn't take anywhere near 12 hours to get the job done! As I said in an earlier post, try out Style and Performance for a quote, they'll make a good offer for you! :D

OK OK :P Before this gets out of hand i was just plucking numbers out of the air, id hope 4 hours would cover it, i was just exaggerating "12 hours" for effect, but i do have a bad feeling its going to be a bigger job than we think.

Might be a bit of a task, should look into it as sourcing the cams seems alright for the power they give its just the kill on labour. Imagine the power increase with a exhaust system, ported header and our trusty induction......along with a tune up & cams. I reckon some serious power maybe even being more powerful than a compressor nice! lol

Well youve got a point there farhanali89, the big talking point on the US forums (mainly Celica GTS drivers with the same 2zzge blocks - but running much lower quality fuel) is trying to break the 200 wheel bhp.

Those are only the naturaly spirated guys...no blowers or turbos allowed.. so it doesnt seem to be too much to ask.

I dont think anyone has actually done it yet, but there are a lot of people very damn close to it..

OK, parts over there will be much cheaper and their insurance is probably a fifth of what our is, but the point it they are all running close to 190 bhp at the wheels, which is probably much more power than a compressors putting out.

To do that over here though id think youd need really deep pockets...

I had a look on the other Celica forum and quite a few people have done, i was going to post and enquire about labour charges and other issues. Then i remembered why i didnt do this before, you have to be a paid member to start topics or reply, and i'm not paying to ask a question.
