Rear Lights Disco!

Hi All,

Strange problem. Had the left tail light, left brake light and eye level brake light die at once. Had bulbs replaced and a few days later, reverse light went. Had that replaced too. A week later, right tail light and a licence plate light went. Took the car to a Toyota garage and they had it for an hour but came back saying all checked and nothing wrong and that they had just replaced the two bulbs. A few days later, left tail light has gone again. I've not done anything about it yet.

Suggestions?

Check the charging voltage. It may be overcharging and causing bulbs to burn out. (voltmeter across Battery, voltage shouldn't exceed 14.4 volts)

I had 5 bulbs die at once two weeks ago - rear lights, reversing light and front sidelights.

The new ones (fitted by Toyota as they knew how to get at them) are happy and all is well.

Does anyone else here find it a bit strange that Toyota bothered to put fuses in the car ?

;)

Obviously you dont know how fuses work. A fuse will blow when too much current flows through it, regardless of voltage. i.e. a 5 amp fuse will happily let 4 amps at 12 volts flow and equally happily, allow 4 amps at 240volts to flow. Excessive voltage will burn out bulb filaments etc.

Fuses protect the wiring, switches etc. from burn out if excessive current starts to flow e.g. from a short circuit.

So basically you're telling me that I should have been listening during class rather than messing about with the gas taps.

:D
