Hi everyone,

My 2004 1.8 petrol vvti engine has quite a lot of mechanical noise coming from the camshaft/valve timing area. I recently had my car serviced at a Natinwide Autocentre who informed me they could not adjust the vvti mechanis. However, according to my manual the vvti mechanism can be tested and adjusted if necessary. I would appreciate anyone's knowledge and advice on this topic.

Thanks

I was under the impression that the tensioner for the chain was hydraulic and so is self adjusting.

I may be wrong, I'm sure someone will let us know.

Are you telling me that your 2004 engine needs manual valve adjustment, when my 1998 engine doesn't? Wasn't that something they did in the 70s ?
