Towing

just purchased a 05 avensis 1.8 t4 tourer just wondering how capable these cars are towing as i used to have a 2.4 mitsubishi spacewagon and down-sized because of running costs.anyway how capable is the avensis i need to tow a 460kg conway unbraked trailer tent ,2 adults,3 small children (the oldest being 9) aboot full of stuff and a 600litre roof box on top from nottingham to devon and back.

No problem - I own a 2002 Avencis 1.8 VVti and tow a Pennine Pathfinder folding camper (1000 Kg) 3-4 times each year.

Dont think you will have much to worry about but you will feel the camper in comparison to your previous car.

many thanks tubaman don't suppose you've felt the need to fit coil spring assistors to the back end have you.just the back end seems abit low even without weight on it.they made a hell of a difference on the spacewagon

Definately havnt needed to upgraded the rear springs - we always travel fully laded with 15 & 17 yr old sons in the back.
