Is My Avensis Timing A Belt Or A Chain?

Hi, I have a 98 2L diesel Avensis linna terra. I have recently serviced it myself but would like to know if I need to change the timing belt. Is it correct to say that if it is a chain then I do not need to change it. Also is there a way of telling without pulling the enging apart.

I changed the oil, air and fuel filter. Is there anything else I should look at for my service?

Sorry for all the questions but it is leaking coolant and I dont know where from. I need to fill up the bottle every week. I have tried sealant already. Maybe I should just live with that!

Thanks

hiya ,,,,,,,,,,,

using that much coolant is odd , could be the head gasket , im unsure if its belt driven or chain driven , if its chain driven you do not need to change it, if its belt driven i think it needs changed evey 60,000 miles

Your engine is belt drive, belt should be changed every 60,000 miles or every 5 years. Might be a good idea to change belt if unsure of service history, especially if you have MOT/NCT coming up.

Regards, Beagh.

Thanks Beagh, would you mind telling me how you know it is a belt drive please?
