Eml Light On Please Help!

Hi Folkes,

I'm a new member and would be very grateful for any advice.

I’ve had this EML light on my Rav4 for 6 months now. Initially I had a garage look at it and they said it was an oxygen sensor. As it didn’t make any difference to the performance/fuel economy of the car I took no action. Recently with onset of colder weather the idling speed on cold start up was high at 2000rpm (some say this is normal for the 2.0 engine). Any way, a bought an OBD scanner and retrieved error code P1155 1/1. When I looked on the net this translates to air fuel ratio sensor heater circuit bank 2 sensor 1 (top left side sensor on manifold looking at the engine bay with the bonnet up). I have removed the sensor found it to be covered with soot and tried to clean it by spraying some brake cleaner. On refitting it made no difference and same code reappears. I could see no option but to replace it so rang Toyota who quoted £160 for the part ouch!

Now before I spend my hard earned cash I want to make sure it is the correct sensor and there are no other possible causes. I have checked the resistance between the 2 black wires on the sensor and got a reading of 3.4 ohms. I then checked the top right hand sensor on the manifold which I believe is another air fuel ratio sensor and the reading was 1. So does this confirm that the left air fuel sensor is the culprit.

Thanking you in advance.

Many thanks anchorman.

I have ordered the air/fuel sensor from a company called JUST LAMBDA in the UK. A direct fit replacement for £103 compared to £160 from toyota (part no. 8946742020 air/fuel sensor causing p1155 error code).

Hopefully this sorts it out.

Will let you know what happens.

Hi Folkes,

Got the sensor the next day, took me 10 mins to fit it and hey presto problem fixed. No more fault codes and now idles just above 1000rpm when cold.

Just a tip for any else replacing the sensor! It is easier to remove the air fuel sensor by opening the top part of the manifold. It takes 5 mins to remove 4 nuts and once opened you get better access to the sensor and can undo it with a 22mm spanner (no special oxygen sensor socket required).

Hope this helps any one else with the same problem.

Which model is it? Just looked at a bill for my 4.2 and the Toyota part no. for at least one of the bottom two is slightly different from the justlambda.co.uk site. Part no. is 89465-42090 rather than ending in 100 , so I'm wondering if those sensors are not for a 4.2. I don't know if I still have the bill for a top one but will have a look around.
