I have a bad knocking noise on my st205 gt4, think it is comin from the drivers side wheel? but hard too tell. The car knocks when driving straight and even harder when turning, but does not knock when dry steering. I have had the car up on axel stands and the wheels spinning, u can not hear the knocking from underneath but can from the inside?..... anyone have any ideas where i should be lookin?

more likely to be control arm 1 knocking at the steering pivot . the ball joints are pathetically small for this model of car.

fig 8's are down to 65 quid nowadays , but most people change the control arm at the same time to avoid doing the job twice , plus the 2 wear in together if changed together.

cheers booster, any idea if you can check to see if its worn whilst still on the car?

it should crack/knock when standing still turning lock to lock ,also driving slow over bumpy ground. 10mph

some guys say you can see them flexing , but to be honest i had my st205 tested with a fig8 /arm knock , the tester used pry bars on it and passed it .

if you pop the ball joints out of the steering pivot , which is a hard job in itself ,you should/will feel all the free play in the ball joints compared to a new arm.

this knock comes on at around 50 to 60 k miles
