New Rav Owner With A Question

Hi all,

I`ve just bought a 1998 2.0 5 door GX in pretty nice condition...

Its running really well, but I have a question about the heat output from the heater.... the car seems to reach temp normally(ie the same speed as my Passat) the water temp guage is just under halfway when warmed through... the heater only seems to be mildly warm when on full hot and barely any warm air comes out of the dashboard air vents?

The air seems warmer through the footwell, but its not piping hot as I`d thought...

Any suggestions would be welcomed...

Thanks in advance

Mark

welcome the forum. Despite you having 5 doors.......

I think we had a post about this quite recently - try searching the RAV4 forum. A sticking heater valve was I think the culprit. The dash vents really only work well if the control is put to that position - but you should still get a good heat. The heater valve is accesible from under the dash from memory - if you can't find the post, I'll look in the morning

Thanks for the welcome... I quite like my doors!!!

Anyway thanks for the advice... should the valve just require me to manually move it to free it up or is there something else I should be doin?

Ta :)

Right - here we are - I found the post. Have a look through it and follow the directions half way down the posts - your heater valve will be under the dash behind the glovebox and towards the centre console area....

Heater controls

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks for digging that out for me..

I went straight to the control cable and checked its connection... all seemed ok, so just moved it along with the control on the dashboard.

Nothing seemed out of order, so a gave all the linkages a quick squirt with wd40 and moved the valve from hot to cold a fair few times.

This has transformed the amount of heat that comes from all selected vents.... I wonder if the valve was a little sticky and the moving the cable lots has freed it up?

Thanks for the quick response....much appreciated...

I have a new baby due tommorow( c section) so I`ll post more on the forum once the mayhem settles down.

Regards

Mark

good luck with your new arrival!!!

And yes, the heater valve can stick on any car if its not used for a while. I'd problems with my Renault vans heater valve. Its worth using the heater controls from time to time just to keep things working.

Well I have a healthy baby girl, born at 10:46 am. Holly Eva, both her and Mum are all ok.

What a great Christmas gift!

Pics to follow in a day or two.

Rav4 is perfect now!

She's a wee smasher! They are great at that age and for the early years!

Start saving up for her mobile phone but!! Course by that time, we'll all be using something futuristic and driving around in RAV4 4.1s which will have just been re-launched (just like the mini but better)
