Immobiliser On Starting

Recommended Posts

I have a intermittent problem with my Carina E GLI (1998cc 1996year).

When I try start the vehicle all the electrics go off and I here a faint alarm sound. The actual alarm was disabled years ago.

I then have to open and close the driver's door and then it usually starts fine.

Is there any easy way of getting round this problem? I don't use the key fob to open the vehicle as the Battery in that went years ago. I just use the key.

I have been told it might be due to the RFID loop around the lock barrel of the ignition? Would using a different ignition key help?

Many thanks,

Suzie

Just an update on this:

Trying a different ignition key does not help.

Problem can still happen when the door is open, in which case just closing the door enables starting to take place.

Managed to solve the problem - the positive Battery terminal wasn't connected tight enough. Car would run fine once running but starting would trip the immobiliser.

Like many posts say, it is always worth checking the Battery before checking anything else!

Oh yes! For future reference you can also get the same problem if the Battery starts to run flat. Regards. Sid.
