could be that the carbon brushes inside the motor have worn away.

You can sometimes fix this problem but not always!!!

The fan motor has two plain bearings at each end and one of them is siezing as a result of it heating up and binding when you switch it on. From memory the heater fan on the Escort is under the bonnet near the windscreen. I have had the fans out before but its a while ago and my memory is now full of RAVs and new timetables etc!!!

Look towards the back of the engine bay and the heater is in that big plastic container. I think you can pull off the cover for the fan and if you squirt some WD40 near where the fan spindle is you might be lucky and it will free it. If not it may require you to pull the fan to bits to get at the inner spindle bearing.

If you take some photos and post them I can have a looksee and add some arrows etc.

Good luck.

OK mate but avoid running the fan as it will burn itself out if it gets too hot.

a van - carefully light a fire in the rear to keep you warm. And check your insurance is paid up.

The "Out of Control Bonfires" Insurance. Surely everyone has it?
