Avensis Won't Start

I have a Toyota Avensis VVTI 2001 and have had little trouble with it.

But when I park it on a kerb with the passenger side on the kerb and the drivers side on the road and if I leave the car like this for any length of time it won't start and it takes a long time to get it started.

Has anyone any idea why this happens???

Don't park it on the kerb, it's illegal. LOL  Sorry, couldn't resist.

Thats a wierd one, haven't got a clue. If I think of anything at all I will post it.

Parking on the Kerb illegal? Id beg to differ but back to the car. Sounds like you have an airleak somewhere in the fuel line that is most evident when you park that car that way and the fuel is then draining out of the fuel line. I had exactly the same happen on new 58 plate corsa i had on hire a few weeks back. Wouldnt start at all when parked on an angle most trouble some. Had to push it on the flat and then crank it for a bit to get it started.

Best thing to do is start backwards from the injectors and check everything is tight on the fuel line. Also check the tank breather isnt partially blocked as it could be causing a suction effect when parked that way.

If you want to be finicky, the illegality is to cause an obstruction, which parking on the kerb does by limiting the room available to pedestrians, prams, baby buggies and wheelchair users.

Driving along the footpaths is an offence for which you can be fined

Parking on a footpaths can cause an obstruction, which is an offence

You can be charged for the costs of repairing damage to footpaths and any services, pipes or cables that result from your driving or parking on a footpath

The original comment was just a 'tongue in cheek' throw away comment.

Evening folks...

Re the parking, it could be illegal depending on where you are...

London? An offence unless specific signs permit it. Elsewhere, different rules apply for different kerbs, location of buildings, etc etc....the list goes on.

The OP I note is from Ireland... Does not say if RofI or N.I.....So it may or may not be illegal.... :)

Regarding the starting of the car issue, I have heard of the problem before described by the previous replier. Sounds like good advice given.

Thanks for all the replies, that should be helpful. As I live in ROI and I live in a cul de sac where the footpaths are wider than the road I have no other choice but to park on the kerb otherwise I'd block traffic but if im ever in the UK I know now not to park on the kerb :D ;)

Thank You!

forgot to say also this is a petrol car would same air leak apply

Yes diesel/petrol makes little difference if its letting in air when parked then it is a pig to start.

Of course I forget to ask when you attempt to start it it just cranks and doesnt fire right?? if so the other option is a loose wire thats only loose/ not connecting when you park at that angle, but less likely.
