05 T-spirit D4-d Fm Antenna Location?

Hi, I've recently bought a 2005 Avensis T-Spirit 2.0 D4-D. Very happy with the car and got a good deal because its previously been in an accident but now fully repaired.

The problem I'm having is that I cant get any radio stations on my stereo, the CD / tape works perfectly but the radio just makes a hissss sound - so I'm wondering where the FM antenna is so I can check the connections etc.

I'm guessing its built into the tailgate somehow (its a hatch) or maybe the rear screen BUT... the tailgate was replaced when the car was damaged, so I'm wondering if they havent connected the antenna or if they have put a tailgate on from lower model car which had an external antenna?

So my questions are:

where is the antenna on a T-spirit hatch? - where is the connection?

Did all Avensis' come with "hidden", integrated antenna's?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

I think all MKII Avensis (2002-on) radio antennas are embedded in the rear screen. MKI Avensis had an external antenna mounted above the windscreen.

Has the lead disconnected at the back of the set itself, by any chance?

I'm not sure about the lead, does the stereo come out easily enough? does anyone have any instructions for stereo removal?

thanks

To VVTIMY,

You need to remove trim above radio that holds cup holder & passenger belt warning light, gently pull towards you starting at passenger door. Then complete trim around gear lever, you should be able to see 2 bolts top & bottom of radio, rotary switches for heater control also come out with radio. This part just a guess, but i seem to remember posting suggesting antenna built into front screen, may stand corrected on this part.

Not sure where the antenna is, front or rear.

If it's had a tailgate on it, maybe it's built into the rear? and the chances are it hasn't been reconnected properly. Usually with rear screen type antenna there is an amplifier inside the tailgate that the radio coax comes from, it also has an electric feed to the amp unit. Maybe the amp was damaged in the shunt too? Think you're gonna have to get inside the tailgate to check it out if all is well at the radio end.

Well, there usually is with rear screen antenna. Can't swear to it on yours but it is likely and as it has had rear end damage/shunt it might be a good place to start.

Good luck with it.

Its definitely at the rear, the top 4 or 5 lines of the demister are in fact the antenna, if you look closely the top and bottom parts are separate. As above, check for the electrical connections to the hatch.
