Window Tints

Hi guys,

I just thought I'd tell you that I was doing a bit of research and found that window tints have to let 75% of the light through on the front side windows and the windscreen and the rear windows need to enable 70% of the light through.

I just thought it was good to know if you're thinking of getting tints. You never know when you're gonna get pulled for something and the police use some light detector thingy which tests your tints.

Thought it might help!

:lol::huh:

You can tint you're front side windows, but you can't tint your windscreen. It needs a minimum of 75% visibility, so you can have a sunstrip covering up to 25%, but that's it. Rear windows is the 70% thingy, but there's something about it being different if it's factory standard on certain vehicles, though I'm unsure what the exact legalities are on that.

Yeah, he's right.

You can do the front windows. I think that the laws were recently updated and only if your windows came tinted darker than is legal at stock, can you have them below 75% but you cannot tint them any more.

I had mine done on my rolla by a professional company and I was told by them that by law they can't touch the windscreen and front drivers side and passenger side windows. I had the two rear quarters and rear screen done Limo Black which is the darkest you can legally go, is just like wearing sunglasses. battered my insurance for some reason though.

Factory fitted tints tend to be 25% on the front, it's not very dark i think but best to leave them if you are unsure (if I'm wrong sorry)

the rear window and rear side windows can be as dark as you like, the front drivers and passengers windows must let through 75% of light thro B)

and for the MOT you can't fail it for any tints fitted anywhere, only advise ;)
