Need Some Major Help Badly!

Hey guys im the newbi here, been searching some topics here for around a yr and now i decided to join.... and some stuff has really helped me but i have a major problem :(.

Firstly my car is a 1 litre 2001 black 3 door Yaris GS, ive had it for a yr now and its been perfect until now!!

1) My first major problem is with the power steering, its been around 2 months now that ive basically lost my power steering!! most of the times its really heavy and very rarely its get back 2 normal, when i start the car the P/S light dosen't turn on sometimes....so basically yesterday i went to get the car oil and filter changed at some tire place and i asked the guy to check the power steering fluid reservoir as many people advised me it might be running out and its the cause of my problem. so they guy looks around looking all confused and he goes there isn't a reservoir!!! im like WTF!! so i check to manual and i check the car myself and find nothing!!

im really confused right now because i thought the p/s need the power steering fluid, so i dont have a clue what 2 do now

2) This isnt that much important but if i can get help i would be grateful. when i bought the car i only received one key the black one, i dont know if the car came with the remote key...so if anyone has any info about how to get a spare key or even the remote key one without the massive cost then that's brilliant.

3) The yaris GS modal has the 2 tone bumper. A while ago i scraped the plastic cladding part against some garden fencing (dont ask how :P ) and i got that nasty brown paint on the cladding!! i was wondering if there is any way of removing the stuff...i went to Halfords and the guy didnt have a clue.

4)Im thinking if tinting the rear lights i've done some research but it seems everyone is a expert and says something different! i want to know what method i should use e.g spray or use the tinting film, is it legal??? and any disadvantages.

Not too familiar with the Yaris myself, but if you can post a picture of the bumper scrape then I may be able to advise the best thing to sort that out.

Hi, I am using a 1l GS as a driving school car and it doesn't have a remote... You have to put the key in the lock, I am afraid!

Also. they have an electric motor to operate the power steering on this model, although my own 1.3 CDX has a pump operated system! Your motor may be faulty.

To the scrape, I recon the best thing would be to rub the scrape down using wet and dry paper, using a finer one as you go, till it looks good again. Do not quote me on that, though, till getting a few more opinions!

You can buy tinting spray for lights, in many shops like Halfords, etc, but the end results will depend on how well you can do it. Dont do it outside, if it is damp or rainy as they will go all milky looking! You can also buy them smoked or get a shop to do them for you but I cant remember the seller on eBay who used to do them, if you sent them in. (Research needed).

As for the legality, you ARE supposed to fit a new set of red reflectors to the rear of the car as your ones will be black and wont reflect. May get you nicked or fail an MOT without them, but highly unlikely!

I was going to get mine done, got the tinted side repeaters off eBay which look great but went for chrome surrounds for the back lights instead as I havent seen 'em on a Yaris to date. Mind you, I still have to put 'em on!

ON RE-READING YOUR POST, I noticed you said the brown stuff was on your car so you may not have actual scrapes....

I would suggest some sort of solvent that will remove the staining, like tar remover or something. Even plain old petrol may do the job but take care!

regarding the bumper, its not actually scratched up but i just got the brown paint like thing on it, it was much worse but i scrubbed it with a damp cloth and some of it came off so it not that obvious 2 the naked eye!!

btw im also thinking of getting the bumper colour coded with the car but im not sure how much will it cost or do u think i can pull it of myself!!

I would suggest trying breakers yards for pre-painted ones fist to see how much it will cost for a good used one.

The power steering issue confuses me.

If it a 2001 model, your Yaris is a mk 1 phase 1. I thought these came with hydraulic power steering (i.e. with a power steering fluid reservoir) and the electric power steering didn't come in until the phase 2 (apart from the t-sport)

But if you have a PS light then this must relate to electric power steeering. Well you learn something new every day!
