Engine transplants

hello all,

I recently purchased a '96 Celica ST, but have already got a bit bored of the performance. I was considering fitting a unichip or similar and filter and exhaust.

What I was wondering though, was whether it would be possible to do a transplant of a GT or even GT4 engine? Are the bellhousings of similar bolt pattern etc.

Any help gratefully received.

Cheers!

Hi JonJ

You will see little return on your 550 quid investment in a Unichip on a normally aspirated car.

Basically, for a real power hike you need a GT4 (or MR2 turbo) engine in there.

You'll also need an MR2 turbo gearbox as the ST/GT boxes would get eaten pretty quickly by the power of the turbocharged unit.

There are loads of people who have done the swap, wiring the harness and ECU in is the most difficult bit...
