Hi guys,

I've been doing research for performance parts for my GTI but I can't find any cranks that would do the job for high power numbers.

Does anyone here know where I can buy a performance crank?

All help is appreciated,

KPARRIS-JONES

Why would you want a new crankshaft in the first place? Whats wrong with the standard?

Unless your doing some crazy N/A rebuild which you must have some silly deep pockets for.

I purchased my First GTI when i was 14 aswell, And have since owned quite a few of them.

Iv been in your shoes, wanted to build a crazy GTI but il give you a few tips which i could have done with when i got my car at 14.

1) Dont bother thinking about an engine rebuild, At 14 Your gonna find it hard to raise £2-3k thats required for something you want to do (Plus do you know how to?). Its hard and very expensive to get any more power from a 4AGE as their already quite highly tuned. Its already a quick car, Just stick a Mongoose or scorpion exhaust on it and youl be laughing. If you really need extra power, think of some Cams or maybe even a 4AGZE conversion (AGZE is pricey tho, And requires alot of knowledge).

2) Get your bodywork sorted before you do anything else. Get your side skirts off the car and inspect the sills. Il 100% guarantee you that youl find thats its either rusty or been welded before. Also have a look at your Suspension mounts, Make sure they are 100% rust free. These cars especially high millege ones rust on the shocker mounts. I see youv got all your interior out anyway, so you might aswell inspect it well. Get your arches PROFESSIONALLY repaired, Dont bother trying to fill them yourself and bodging it yourself - Trust me, Iv been their done that and the rust will come back in a couple of months.

Other places to check are the Doors (Open them up and look at the bottom corners), Tailgate (Outside and open it up and inspect it around the rubber ball things on the inside), Sunroof (On the outside and remove the headlining bit on the inside of the car and have a look their aswel.

3) Dont bother wasting your time getting your interior re-trimmed. Its expensive and looks horrible. Tbh, the GTI has got the best interior that iv seen in any car. Just leave it as is. Dont get a smaller steering wheel, it makes driving it and parking a pain in the *****.

4) This is what lead me to scrap my loved GTI a few months ago. Having left it in my garage for over 3 years without waxoil. it turned out to be Incredibly rusty even though when i bought the car it was mint. Invest in some cans of waxoil. And Waxoil the car EVERY where you can. Atleast this will give you re assurance that your car will still be roadworthy when you pass.

5) Mods wise, I say get some decent shocks. Kayaba, Koni shockers with 40MM PI springs are awesome. Iv had both sets and compared to a standard car they handel amazing. Get a scorpion or mongoose exhaust (They sounds awesome and give you quite abit more power). Stick with wheels that are Strictly no bigger than 16". Youl find that wheels bigger than 15's Will make the car drive *****, and they'l slow it down. IMO the standard wheels with 195 tyres give the best performance.

6) How are you going to get insured on a Corolla GTI when your 17? I got quotes for £4K lol. Cheapest i got was £2400, And that was on my mums name with her 6 yrs NCB. That was the cheapest quote i got after searching for like a year.

7) Invest in an Alarm. These cars are very easy to break into. I left my keys in the car 3/4 times with the doors locked and it honestly takes me less than 60 seconds to break into the car and open the doors. (Thats without breaking a window lol).

8) Dont drive the car about until you pass. I used to drive mine about like a ***** all the time when i was 15 with the windows down, music turned up, racing people in Huddersfield lol. I suggest you dont, youl only get 6 points and your car crushed.

Good luck,

Thanks for the reply and advice. Listening to what you've just said, I'll do think like and airfilter, exhaust and 272 duration cams and other things like a lightweight flywheel.

I'll leave the serious modding for when I can get a low enough insurance price!

And 170bhp is gained with a few things like a re-map so I guess that far enough power in such a small car!

The bodywork can be filled by a mate of mine who practically runs the garage where he works, and I'm sure I'll get a family discount which shouldn't be too bad. As for the waxoil, I'll coat my car in it and I have already checked in all the places you said for rust and yep! Its everywhere!

My dad has a mate who is scrapping his rolla who will give it to me for parts like the sunroof which is in great nick. Not a patch of rust on it! :D

First things first though, strip down the block and get it scanned!!!!
