Hi mate,

Yes there will be a 2.4ltr model but the bad news is that it will only be available with auto transmission!!!! Doesn't sound as appealling does it. Don't know whether a manual will become available at a later date, I haven't heard anything. I work on engine line so if I hear anything I'll let you know.

Don't have any power figures yet, haven't even seen the engine at work yet!!! We will not start building it until 6months after the new Avensis is launched, should be around June time but even then you won't be able to get your hands on one for a while. I know the 2.4ltr engine is already in production in Japan and available in other Toyota models, which ones I don't know. If I hear anything I'll let you know.

well camry has 2.4 engine, (160 something HP), but I doubt that avensis T Sport will have less than 220 HP... or I will smoke it with my Corolla ;-)

The standard 2.0 litre Avensis engine has 149 BHP and the 1.8 Corolla T-Sport engine produces 189 BHP so the new 2.4 is going to be well over 220.......well, I hope so anyway!.

161bhp isnt as bad as it sounds actually, because in general to get quick acceleration you need lots of torque.

161bhp it would seem to me would mean there would be lots of torque which could also be why they have mated it to the auto box as most people change gears at the wrong times etc particularly in petrols where the torque is low down like in a diesel.

I think it will be a fine combination and should work well.

It's already advertised in the UK and in Switzerland at 160HP. Could be tuned for torque I suppose :D

Seriously though, I think that it's probably got quite some potential for tuning up

I suspect that a real TSport will never be available. It doesn't really enter into the image Toyota are trying to give the Avensis.

I was wondering... the Corolla Tsport uses the same engine as the 1.8 Avensis I think (1ZZ-FE in the Avensis)

How easy would it be to transplant the Corolla unit with all its gubbins into an Avensis? I'd like to feel 190+hp in my car :D Make my own Avensis Tsport

Dealer Figures from the Netherlands show 163 BHP and 230 Nm Torque.

My 1st gen Avensis has 220-230 BHP and 270 - 300 Nm Torque when its finished. Then there is still some tuning to do.

In a few weeks it will be completed.
