Fulltime 4 Wheel Drive

I just took my first ever vacation with my Super Custom. Had it to the Coast of Kenya. Tried to do some 4 wheeling on the sand and discovered that there seemed to be no traction coming from the front wheels.... I need to understand how the Full time 4 wheel drive works. For instance, is there any way to engage or dis-engage it? I have no manual since it is imported used from Japan. Any knowledge of how it works or should work will be most helpful.

I have a lucida permanent 4x4 - it should be the same pricipal.

These are NOT designed for off road use. The 4x4 system cannot be disengaged at all
