Vibration E12

Hello,

My name is Erwin and I live in the Netherlands. I recently bought a 2005 Corolla 1.6 Vvt-i automatic for my wife.

Nice car but there is a vibration in the steering wheel which makes it very uncomfortable to drive. It's not the typical "wobbling unbalanced tires" feeling but more like driving with tires inflated to 60 psi! It's not speed sensistive and it even vibrates on a perfect new flat piece of motorway.

The car has standard 195/15/60 tires and factory alloy wheels.

I returned it to the dealer and they replaced the front tires (Michelin's) under warranty but this had no effect. I returned it again, they checked everything and claimed that nothing was wrong with the car and that everything was "normal". If this is "normal" I can't understand why Toyota sold so many Corolla's!! I didn't receive an answer to that question  .

My warranty ends in october 2009 and I want this problem to be solved before that. Before I take further actions I want to know if this vibration problems rings any bells or sounds familiar to any of you?

TIA

Erwin

I posted something similar a couple of days ago, regarding my 2004 VVT-i automatic.

It's not easy to tell what it might be, but I believe it might be the plastic covers underneath the engine bay that create this vibration. In my case, the resonance happens when I cruise in about 80-90 km/h on a flat highway, and stops when I slow down. However, it doesn't always happen.

I also feel heavy vibration in the steering wheel, even though the bumps are small... it's really annoying... I'm going to check the plastic covers soon.
