Hi i recently got new front brake pads fitted , now the car is braking grand except when moving slow in traffic when you brake there is a sound like steel hitting steel when you brake.

It okay when travelling at speed have been told that pads need time to bed in , but its reallly annoying any ideas what it could be

thanks

Have you checked the alignment of the clips on the brake pads? They're loose fitting, shiny bits at either end of the pads when fitted.

You shouldn't need to end up giving toyota £75 to look at it as it a 5 minute per corner job if that is indeed the problem.

Cheers.

Be careful with this. Do check the clips but if it persists and you see scoring on the discs, get that pad off and see if there's anything stuck in it like a small stone cause, if there is, your discs will be ruined if you don't catch it soon!

No.

The abs sensor wouldn't be grinding anything or going off randomly.

It will be a physical problem, not electrical.

Very new to this so feel free to tell me to go away :) I was reading a post on how to change discs and pads and it recommended to apply some copper grease on the back of the pads in order to avoid noise. Hope it helps.

The discs aren't rusty or anything are they? I really can't think of anything else being wrong with them.

As long as there's no grit or stones between the pad and disc then it's no buggy. It may just disappear on it's own if you wait a while?
