4d4 Diesel Fuel Filter

A question on servicing....I have managed to get hold of a Haynes service manual but, you guessed it, there is no diesel engine information.....

The last service carried out by Toyota was a year ago and cost £350 +...so I thought this time I would carry out my own service especially as the "pollen filter" was found to be severely blocked !! Spares were obtained from JAPPARTS and very reasonably priced....

One question ...Please can some kind person guide me to the fuel filter and what problems I could face when replacing it ??

Which version of RAV are we talking about here?

I'm assuming it's what we refer to as "4.2" i.e. the second generation built between about 2001 and 2005?

We usually ask if you could update your profile on the left to show model year or something, as it makes it easier to give info about the correct model straight away. Thanks

The more "professional" mechanical members may be able to add more, but the fuel filter is housed in the cylindrical metal body, with the "priming plunger" on top at the rear of the engine bay.

Anchorman's photo shows it here on the 4.3 (hope you don't mind me referencing the photo Anchorman), but it is in a similar place on the 4.2.

Here's the filter replacement instructions:

Fuel draining is done by unscrewing the bottom. When I changed on my old 4.2, didn't read the manual carefully enough to begin with and thought the filter could be removed in-situ but the housing body does have to come away as shown, or at least it made it far easier for me.

when all back together, pump the plunger on top until you get a lot of resistance. I wondered whether I would get a few problems with air/hesitation etc on restarting the engine, but it fired and turned over as though nothing had changed.

The factory manual can be viewed (and pdfs saved for you own use) here for a very small charge (about €3/hour):

Others who have changed more of these than me may be able to add more than my "amateur" comments.

Cheers

Many thanks for your assistance with this filter, it looks easy enough to replace so long as I can use something other than the sst to remove the actual filter from its housing...

I have tried to update the profile info as far as possible, please advise if more info required....

Best regards...The Blade

Probably confusing, 'cause I borrowed one of your photos......and you'd have probably given a better explanation anyway.

Whatever, either way, it matters not who takes the credit :D.
