Rav T180 Tyres

Hi all,

I have just bought a 57 Rav T180, which seems fine so far. I'm not very expert but I am lead to believe that the run flat tyres on the T180 mean that they are difficult to source and fit. Can anyone tell me if I can get snow tyres or at least some form of dual purpose tyres?

My 2nd query is that the CD player takes only 1 CD whereas What Car? reviews show it as having a multi CD changer. I wonder if I'm not doing something right....

Many thanks in anticipation of a reply.

Hi Torqs and a warm welcome to you up in Banff - bet yer ready for the New Year up there??

T'other guys wi T180s will be along shortly after they've sourced a spare tyre for Christmas...........

Its the tools needed to fit the tyre which are not so common - and you might be better asking around your area to see who has that stuff. The tyres at the moment seem to vary on availability....and like new Toyotas in the past, it can take a year or two before another manufacturer comes into the market. In the meantime, with the runflat I think the choice is limited.

Thanks for your reply. I will stand by. Yup, there will be a lot of spare tyres around after Christmas, and I might even have one or two myself. Cheers and happy festivities... Torqs

Welcome to the forum, Torqs :)

Dunno if it is the case with the Current RAV4 models, but I recall quite a few people found out they only had a CD-Changer installed after having the car for ages when they happened to look under the passenger seat!!! :D

If you look for some posts by Christa, who is from Bulgaria, you will find some great info about run-flats and snow tyres, etc. I think those will probably answer your questions very well

Another welcome from me torqs

No, "What Car" got it wrong. As standard, the unit in your T180 (same as my XT5), will only take one CD.

I think the argument goes something like - as it will take mp3s on the disk, you can get the equivalent of about 10 CDs worth on one disk.

I believe you can connect up a 6 disk CD changer though and indeed an ipod interface, although the track display with the ipod interface is, again, I believe, fairly disappointing compared to when it is connected to the radio/head unit in the lower spec models.

Hope that helps.

Hi, as SHCM says the T180 had single cd & mp3 player, only the XT4 & XT-R have the 6 disc player as standard, just got this from the 2007 brochure, Mike

Hi Torqs

Welcome. Iam not far from you. T180 has only a single cd player but plays mp3. As for snow tyres never bother as the tyres supplies as standard are good enough. Local Toyota dealer is quite good at sourcing tyres.

I don't know if this is true or not, but relaying a conversation I overheard at a tyre place last week while getting a new tyre ....

Guy came in wanting snow tyres for his hatchback as he lived in Germany. Tyre guy told him that all road tyres sold in the UK are actually M+S spec but don't tend to be put on the tyres unless they are for 4x4/SUV type vehicles.

now I find that a little surprising (based on no knowledge, just opinion), however the General Grabber UHP Tyres do have a "M.S" sign on them, so maybe all UK road tyres - or at least 4x4/SUV tyres ARE M+S spec?

I used to change my tyres over when the clocks changed. From summer tyres, to fantastic M+S Michelin Alpin Pilots in winter. The M+S tyres are for temperatures less than 7'C. The tyre compound is a lot softer, and provides amazing grip in snow and ice. At higher temperatures, you start bouncing around a bit, and so wouldn't be good as a stock tyre.
