Hi Folks,

I'm driving a gen 7 190 celica on mainly secondary irish roads on 205/45/17s (she came with these tyres about 6 mts ago) and due a tyre change ..anyone got any recomendations on best tyres to use for this type of driving? There is a mix of Federal and Kumho on her at the moment.

I was thinking of Uniroyal rainsport?

When I bought my TS they came with good P Zeros on the back and brand new Hancook Ventus V12 Evos on the front.

Do not buy Hancooks. They are downright terrible for high performance cornering. Infact lethal.

I'm a confirmed Goodyear man but they don't do the size in F1 Asymetrics so I'll be changing to the new

Excellence 205/45-17Z XL

The new 3-in-1 performance tyre

''

Developed in partnership with leading vehicle manufacturers to exceed ever-demanding customer expectations, after Goodyear asked 40,000 people what they expect from a tyre. They named three things: safety, comfort and performance. That's why the revolutionary Excellence tyre incorporates three technologies into a single tyre. It offers you the safest possible drive, with superb performance in handling, and an exceptional feeling of comfort.

Thanks for the reply  Hopefully you're having a great christmas! My local tyre guy was trying to sell me the Good Year Excellence ( 215/45/17 not the 205/45/17) as they were cheaper than the 205s genearally but still fit(?). Though on some websites they were saying the sidwalls were n't great on the Excellence..

It s had to know what to do....

Pro's and Con's of 215/45/17 on a Gen 7 (if fitting two they MUST be on the rear)

Pro's (based on fitting all four):

Slightly cheaper than 205/45

Slightly better ride

Very slightly better fuel consumption

Fills the Arches better

More protection from kerbing your expensive Rims

Con's:

Having a bigger rolling radius, the acceleration is slightly compromised

As a run a 140 and want maximum acceleration, I'm running the stock 205/45 :)

You may also wish to consider three other brands, Falken 452, Toyo T1R and Yoko Parada spec 2.

It s had to know what to do....

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference

205/45-17 3.6in 12.1in 24.3in 76.2in 831 0.0%

215/45-17 3.8in 12.3in 24.6in 77.3in 819 1.5%

in other words when your speedo shows 60mph your real speed will be 60.9mph.

That's assuming your Speedo is accurate in the first place which it isn't. Fitting slightly larger Tyres will actually make your Speedo read closer to your actual speed. For example 225/40/18 which is a bigger difference than 205/45/17 to 215/45/17, makes the Speedo virtually spot on :)

Sorry to butt in on your thread, but I was wondering if anyone had any photos of the car with 215/45R17 tyres on just to get an idea of what they look like?

Ok, i've finished butting in! :D
