Faulty Speedo

Speedo on my early 2001 Rav4 has stopped working. Problem first identified when speedo needle started wavering at 80k miles approx. Needle now stopped moving but all other dial on dash working properly.

Any suggestions as to fault and possible repair?

Usually just a faulty connection. Disconnect it at the speedo drive on the gearbox and give it a squirt with WD40.

The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is on the transmission. Unplug the connector and clean the terminals. coat it with dielectric grease and plug it back in. That will usually get it sorted.
