Service Overdue

Hi guys,

A question about service. If the Auris has done about 7000 KMs overdue for oil change, would that present much of a problem? Say the car was new and then did 17000 KMs without oil change.

I know it also depends if the car had fully synth oil or not, but obviously this car had Toyota's genuine oil for 17000 Kms withot an oil change.

Cheers!

Hi Modena!

I went to the service when I had 18 000 on the clock

and the dealer said that some little delays are ok.

Just have to go little later to the next service so it won't

be too fast after the pervious one. About @ 31-32 000,

next one (35 000) can be done normally!

Best regards, Alex

Hi Alex,

You mean your car has done 18,000 KMs before your first service and the Toyota dealer wasnt fased by it?

I thought we need to service every 10000 KMs to keep the warranty.

What oil are you using now?

Don't know about the oil, it's Toyota's original. Sorry didn't know that service limit is 10 000 in your country.

In Finland it's every 15 000km. That means the car was at the service 8000 KMs late, not only 3000.

I think that your dealer won't be very happy, just need to hope for the best!

So you meant to service every 15,000 KMs in Finland? Is that according to your manual? Is your car diesel or petrol?

Here in Australia they ask to service every 10,000 KMs.

I cant really see the car engine being damaged with 7000 KMs over the service...but can never be too careful. Im using fully synthetic Mobil1 oils now. 0w-40 atm but switching to 5w-30 next oil change.

Yes the service needs to be done every 15 000KMs in Finland according to the manual and the dealer...

Maybe the late oil-change isn't damaging the engine, but it's always better to change according to

the recommendations! I'm very careful with my car too, and am trying to keep it clean, use only

the best parts and do services on time. By acting so your car will be nice to drive and easy to sell!

15,000Kms is about 9320 miles. So that would tie in with a UK 10K service interval. if the car is 7000kms over service interval, that equates to about 4349 miles.

It's every 10.000 kilometers out here in Turkey too.

I went to my first 10.000 service around 12.000 kilometers and they were totally okay with it. However, at around 5000 kilometers, I went to the dealer and changed the oil and oil filter completely. They told me it's not necessary and they'll change it at 10K but I told them to change it anyway, they said fine. After that, I went to 10K service around 12K as I said.

I have a D-4D engine by the way.

Oh and in the manual it says you need to change the oil at the authorized Toyota service every 10.000 kilometers or 6 months, whichever comes first. SO even if you haven't made 10.000 kilometers, you need to change oil every 6 months.

In UK we service all newer Toyotas at 10,000 miles or every 1 year depending which is sooner. This is the same for petrol and diesel engines.

Thats not true for corolla diesels, and i dont think it differs in auris.

Thanks everyone for posting. So the car should be fine even with 7000 KMs overdue for service as long as its once off and we use synthetic oils right?

Regarding diesel engines, I have always been under the impression that diesel egines are much tougher as they have oil inside the actual diesel s even if you run out of your engine oil, your diesel oil should be just enough to get your car going.

Unfortunately not :D You must remember that moving parts are not only pistons but also camshaft, crankshaft, compressor. New diesels engines can be even more fragile due to complex injection systems, exhaust cleaning systems etc.

Well, Alex, my finnish manual is different of yours... All models service interval is 15000 km or even longer in diesels, their service reminder allows about 30000 kms ( I somehow forgot my 90000 service and first reminder flashed at 105000). In highway speed diesel runs 1500-2000 rpm compared 3000-4000 rpm (underpowered and -geared) petrols and oil is almost clear after 5000 kms, modern diesel engines are lots better than -80's M-B:s.

Thanks guys, it's always good if someone else knows better. I'm not saying, but the fault can be in my head or in my user's manual. There are few mistakes in my manual (for example it says that all the rearlight bulbs are same type as front parkinglight bulbs ). Or maybe I just forgot what did it say! Cannot check the info now, because my car is standing in the garage (not close to my house), washed, waxed and fueled-up. I'm leaving on a holiday for one week, so she's there in the warm

Here is what it looks like inside the engine, under the filler cap.

Can someone post photo of their engine? I want to compare the engine conditions. I would really appreciate it. :)
