Time To Change Brakes Advice/help Needed

The time has come and my brakes seem to be squeeking a little when driving...Not when im braking im sure its the pads which have worn down a fair bit.

Was thinking of getting some OEM discs and pads...but then thought looking into all the drilled and grooved nonsense.

Also if i was to use original discs and just get a set of greenstuff pads or something would it make any difference....I obviously want a bit better braking power but i dont want a large hole in my pocket either. Any suggestions or places for both front and back would be good. regards

I would go for Mintex Discs and pads of your choice, why not try Red Stuff ones?

Rears don't do as much of the work so concentrate on the front i.e dont spend a fortune upgrading the rears.

I have black diamond discs and pads waiting for installation. They didn't even cost much.

My friend has got those black diamonds on his mk4 gti golf and he said that they are great.

If you order them the size of the rear discs are wrong in the BD web site. It claims that tsports rear discs are 258mm but they really are 279mm, so you should mention that when placing a order.

Cheers.

as the self proclaimed brake guru:

Nrgizerbunny suggests the following:

1. Get EBC Redstuff Pads or Endless SSS, the latter is not E mark ed and not road legal but is damn good in any case!

2. Forget drilled, they will crack eventually. Obviously if you hammer them they'll crack faster and tbh you won't go fast enough in a cts (in london) to notice the improved cooling.

3. Grooves are worth a mention but I personally don't think they are worth the expense, they deglaze the pad allegedly.

My advice would be to get Solid Discs but of a decent make, Brembo/OMP/Delphi/AP (I think they are delphi now) and Redstuff pads.

The other bit i have learned recently is to ensure you buy decent brake fluid. Mobil DOT 5.1 and Comma DOT 5.1 is not the same!

hope this helps.

Just to add my two pennies worth, look at upgrading to braided hoses. Did it on my glanza and made a whole lot of difference.

May be something to think about..

will look into that...i think the drilled would just look better in any case but not improve things so may not bother now. Redstuff pads is a defo...i might get drilled and grooved at the front but the bit of the cracking worries me. I drive my car hard over the weekends at meets so i need something which is reliable...

I'll add a bit further to this,

I've had black diamond and the discs cracked at 20k, well i don't actually know when they started to crack but when i checked tham at 20k they were toast.

i've also used 3G, front brakes had no problem with but the back ones warped within about 150 miles of driving. They "replaced" them and the new set have been fine. However I do have some issues with there customer service. They were supposed to send me a new set of brake discs free but they actually charged me for them. I had to go through my credit card company to get the funds back. I wouldn't deal with them ever as it was a right ballache.

In a nutshell if i was you i would get redstuff and solid discs. Drilled look nice but not as nice as painting your calipers.

Just one other point worth noting, red stuff seems to bed in better on new discs, if you have any slight wear on your discs then change them before you fit redstuff. Redstuff is way harder than OE pad material.

Does somenone know the part number of Black Diamond rear brake pads for TSport?

Installed those discs and front pads, but the rear pads didn't fit. Part number of those pads is PP 545.

The rear pads have little metal clips that go onto 1 edge. There were new ones with my pads.

All 4 rear pads are identical so you just fit the clips to 2 of them.
