Firstly apart from 4.3/xt5/T180 owners who have the automatic light sensors, i believe.. Is it just me, i get in the car turn the ign on the dash lights up i put my seatbelt on + drive away to be flashed by oncoming cars cause i havent put my lights on  Then i arrive at my destination turn my ignition off the dash lights all go out i open the door the buzzer goes off cause i have left my lights on, i know i am getting a bit confused with the rapid onset of late middle age but surely this system cant be right  Winge 2.. why do Photobucket keep removing perfectly harmless photos from our posts? sometimes the photo can be the whole essence of the post and in its place we get a little note..Photobucket has removed or moved this photo..WHY? WINGE OVER

O dear :( :( Local.......

Cant help you on your auto lights etc... but Photobucket....Only when the image is removed or re-named from your own location is it then replaced with the photobucket image.... I have removed some (spring clean) but these related to an old post months old even years so was well down the list of active one's.....

don't think Photobucket themselves do it.... ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

Mr LH, what functionality would you like then for the lights? :D.

I'm assuming you want it to tell you that you need to put your lights on? For that the car needs to know that it is dark and for that it needs a sensor (more cost). If it has a sensor, then auto lights are only a short step away.....

It costs relatively little to tell you to turn the lights off. It knows you have stopped already, it knows the lights are on already (it doesn't matter if it is bright or dark outside) and it knows you are getting out of the car already, so giving a warning doesn't really cost anything to do (mostly fairly simple software).

My assumption is it doesn't tell you until you are getting out, because you could have just stopped briefly somewhere and in some circumstances it may be safer to leave the lights on, rather than get an annoying warning as soon as you stop the engine.

BTW, I find my auto lights a bit of a gimmick and don't generally use them in that mode. Mainly because I like to have as much electrical load as possible off before I start and stop the engine, which isn't always the case with the auto lights. Some of you are bound to say the light are nothing compared with the starter motor etc load. Maybe true, but every little helps and it's just my nature. Also, like to put them on myself so that they don't come on at the wrong moment with the potential get mis-interpreted for a flash/brake lights by other drivers.

Might not be a problem soon. There are moves a foot for the whole of Europe to get daylight running lamps on new vehicles.

Silly question about photobucket. Are you moving you pics about into different albums etc? If so, that may be your problem. The url for the picture may change and that might be why it not longer references properly from you posts on here.... oh just seen Chatman's already said that too

Cheers

(A grumpy old ****** thread would be great though! :D).

Chatters shcm.. if you go down the page to suggestions for a club meet, where Hoovie had pictures of two tasty young frauleins at the Oktoberfest they have been removed, next will be your dixie chicks Chatters + that will be sacrilage..Secondly in any car i have owned when you switch the lights on the dash lights up..when you turn the lights off the dash lights go out.. surely the 4.3 is totally the opposite

I have had a couple of pics on my own photobucket account that have been removed by Photobucket due to "decency" transgression - and they were not pornographic by any means.

The oktoberfest one was on another persons account so they may have removed them themselves?

Yep, I see where you are coming from. There's a fashion for brightly lit up dials during the day. I've certainly driven h*nka pool cars with it as well as the Toyotas........and they get dimed with the lights on so, you don't get dazzled by it in the dark.

I assume you've got the instrument dimmer set to your liking (cause you have!)?

.....I know....I know, you really want an old instrument pack as well, i.e. with a speedo needle that vibrates badly between 30 and 40 mph .....I'm sure it can be arranged with a little reprogramming ;)

Stewpot

Dim your panel lights down a bit. They will revert to full brilliance (is brilliance a word? - if not brightness, dazzleness, undim etc) when you turn the lights off. After a short while you get used to the fact that they are very bright until you put the lights on and vice verca.

PS. I'm interested in your opinion as to when late middle age becomes old age??? I'm hoping I am still a youth despite the greying hair.

Chatters

You look very nice from the back. I will pay more attention next time and as I am still a youth you should be flattered!!!

Mr LH:

Getting back to your photobucket problem. As an example this was one of your RAV photo posts with the poppy:

Click Me - Your Poppy Post

....and you can't see the picture.....

The "web address" to (or location of) your poppy picture on photobucket used in that post was:

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk126/sjones0610/049.jpg

or to see the address in full:

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk126/sjones0610/049.jpg

Now, if I have a skulk about in your photo bucket albums, I think you may have now moved this picture into an album called "my forum stuff".

So now the "web address" to that picture is:

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk126/s...20stuff/049.jpg

or again to see the address in full:

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk126/sjones0610/my%20forum%20stuff/049.jpg

If you compare the two "web addresses" , you can see it is now slightly different. It got the "my forum stuff" added into it if you look. (%20 just means a space).

You can still display the poppy picture, if you use the new above reference. e.g. :

using

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk126/sjones0610/my%20forum%20stuff/049.jpg

gives:

049.jpg

The thing is, the "web address" written into your original post doesn't change when you move the picture, which means the forum board/software will no longer be able to find, so it can display it, it if you move it.

Think there is two solutions. Either don't move the the picture about on photobucket once you've used it in a post or if you do move it, you'll have to manually edit all your old TOC posts that use it, to reference its new location. I'd recommend the first!

That probably makes it clear as mud.

Chatman - There's only so many cold showers I can take in one day. Especially this weather

I had a similar problem on this side of the pond. My 2008 Limited came with daytime running lights, so I would start the car, the dash lights up, and I can see the lights shining on the garage door. The natural assumption is that the headlights are on, but only the DRL's are on. You have to look for a green headlight icon at the top of the instrument cluster to see if the headlights are actually on. When you do activate the headlights, the dash lights dim. Turning the dash light brightness control all the way to the detent changes the dash lights to full brightness. In addition, all the 4.3's over here come with "auto off" headlights. If the lights are on while the engine is running and you switch off the ignition, then open the door, there is no warning buzzer. Once you shut the door, the lights will turn off after 30 seconds. Pushing the lock button on the key twice will lock the car and turn off the headlights immediately. I think for 2009 they have added auto-on as well--there is a small dome photosensor on the dash. I think when I start working nights again, I'll just leave the headlight switch on, since I'm going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark.

I find the autolights a bit random. They never turn on in the morning, when I want them on. And sometimes, when you go under a flyover in the middle of the day, they turn on for a second or so, so it looks like you flashed the car in front!! I'm thinking about covering the light sensor up permanently, so the lights are on all the time, like Volvos, but am unsure what to use. Could I get a spare temp sensor cover, and swap it with the translucent cover on the light sensor? Are they easy to remove?

Stew, you say the kindest things :D

Re the fraulines reappearing .... I wonder if the various pics have been missing because the Photobucket servers have been overloaded this time of year with people posting up loads of Christmas pictures, and the links are just timing out?

I think I had a few problems recently uploading some pics.

and the links are just timing out?

It's a thought, but then surely you wouldn't get the "this image or video has been moved or deleted" image instead of the intended one. The "deleted message" image is still coming off a photobucket server surely? If it was timing out, wouldn't you expect to see just a box with a red cross in it or something?

I guess it depends on their set up. For the sake of argument, if it times out on a fetch which goes through something like an internal photobucket network, then I suppose the outward facing connection could just spew the "deleted" message image by default.

I had a quick look on the photobucket support forums. Lot's of people not getting the link right in the first place or forum software not being able to cope with long photobucket urls, but didn't find anything yet about images disappearing and reappearing.

I take LH's point about the Oktoberfest girls though. Only explanation I have at the moment is somebody moving their images about on photobucket, but it doesn't seem a satisfactory one. I suppose it may become clearer with time...............

Cheers

I wonder if that "this image or video has been moved or deleted" message is a custom 404 message that photobucket have setup? :g:

I cannot find an example, but when a photo is removed by photobucket the message is in the same blue box but says something like "this image has violated Photobuckets Terms of Use"

The auto-lights on the 4.3 are bugging me a bit too. While a bit of a gimmick in underground car parks, it's true that they can blink on and off at the wrong moment - never thought of having an accident after "flashing" a car but it's a good point.

My current gripe in this weather is that I have to switch them on manually when it rains in the daytime - would have been more sensible to link them to the wiper motor, so they come on by default when the wipers are working. Though this wouldn't answer the "cloudy but not raining" problem...

In place of all that, I'd much prefer daytime running lights - about which I asked the dealer when I bought it, but he knew nothing - and hope that at some point Toyota (or someone else) will develop a quick retro-fix when the law comes in (2011/12 I think). Preferably more technological than taping over the sensor!

(BTW, apologies if I've missed a trick, but my English manual still hasn't arrived yet!)

Still don't understand why the entire planet doesn't use the system on my old Subaru. There was a button on top of the steering column, for "lights on with ignition off". Think about it - why should they set to be default "on" when you turn off the ignition, as they are in just about every car sold these days? Surely 99% of the time they should be default "off", and you just hit the button for the 1% of the time when you park at the side of the road in the dark? They really seem to have that the wrong way round.
