Afternoon guy n gals,

My cousin has just bought himself a G7 VVTL GT, he wants a bit more punch from it, said to him he should re-map it. But im new to all the toyota scene, so want to if they can be done, if not anything else that would help it increase the power?

Can they be re-mapped?

What is approx power increase?

Where they best place to have this done?

cheers

you're in luck, it's easier to soup up the GT's than the GTS's, because of the 1zz's lower compression. my advice: throw a turbo/SC on the pig. there's your big gains.

The VVTL-i Engine comes highly tuned from the Factory so noticeable gains are very expensive. Also bear in mind that a standard GT is worth around £10K, any Engine mods. are likely to make the Car worth much less.

To avoid any possible confusion with PHILGTS, in the USA/Canada, GT = VVTi, GTS = VVTL-i

Hmmmm turbo is a bit too much,

he has just bought the car so, that wont be going for VERY long time

Maybe a air filter?

Induction kit and exhaust are really the only viable options, as the engine is producing nearly 110 BHP per litre being normally aspirated squeezing more power out is difficult. As suggested forced induction is the only way forward, however its a waste of money.

Some of the T-Sport Corolla's have been remapped but the gain isn't worth the expense, piper cams claim to make 12-15 BHP more at a cost of £700 ish plus labour.

As allready stated the vvtli/2zzge engine is pushing out a lot for a 1.8 engine and adding wild cams and such is gonna give a extremly narrow power band and not really good for everyday driveability.

Add a nice exhaust and induction kit and be happy.

I had a gen7 vvti and was considering going down the FI route and bought all the chassis mods as power is nothing without control.

Spent a fortune on Tarox 10 pots, quaife lsd-the whole suspension but then got rid and bought a gt4.

less hassle-more power-awd and easy to tune and anything over 230bhp in a FWD is gonna be terrible for traction unless properly sorted.

Just my 2p

Tell hom to spend money on a set of tein coilovers with top mounts, strut braces and some decent brakes and while the VR6 might have him in a straight line the celica will murder him in the twisties.

yh he is searching for all the little bit and bob like coilovers, air filter ect....

Yeah very good point vr6 murders him on the straights, but on the corners vr6 is nose front heavy.

I put the Teins on mine along with TRD rear brace, front upper and lower braces and 10 pot brakes and it handled and stopped like you wouldnt believe.

how low do the sumps sit on the gt's, sit fairly low as it is.

Get an apexi power fc and get it remapped. I know of a few places in ireland where ya can get it done but not in the UK, sorry.

As have been said N/A engines are expensive to see any real gains. Best bet is to get a cat back exhaust, decat, manifold, intake/induction kit and possibly a high compression piston kit which ive seen for sale on fensport. But all the above will be expensive. I have tein coiovers on mine and it handles brilliantly...

Also get a lightened flywheel, upgraded clutch short shifter and practice launching and then your friend should do better against the vr6 ;)

Oh also i have never had any trouble from going over bumps with the sump...and my car is round 3-4inches off the ground. slam it :D
