Hi there. Just left three years working at a Toyota dealership and believe it or nt there were a few issues with these 2.2 powerplants with a few customers having to have their brand new cars fitted with new engines. Biggest giveaway is a rattly engine but check on the oil consumption too. To be fair, toyta will change any engines under warranty, their aftersales is superb but it is a pain having your car off the road for ten days. Don't buy black either. Its a non metallic colour and shows up every tiny mark!

Bad time of year for people to be commenting, they are all on the :lol:

RAV is a great car, as many will tell you on here, yes there are some oil consumption issues, but with that budget you could get one well inside warranty so go for it

Kingo

Well, with this incarnation being only three years old, it may still be a little early for the weaker bits to show, or maybe that speaks for itself.

Trying to remember what's been seen overall on the forum:

There were a few cowl related leaks early on, but that shouldn't be a problem with post 07 I wouldn't have thought.

Yes a few oil consumption issues with that engine.

A few sump leaks.

A few knocking noises from the steering - known issue.

Recently early failed glow plugs

A few starting problems early on

There's some engine ECU firmware upgrades

really minor stuff like rear wiper motor interference to radio.

Probably lots I've forgotten (sorry to those who may have had huge problems that I've forgotten).

This might sound like a long list of bad news, but I'm trying to give a balanced opinion.

So far (touch wood) I've had nothing really major at all and you have to remember most people generally only pop up on here if they are looking to buy or have a major problem, so you get a slightly biased view.

I'd say the vehicle on the whole is fine and I'm still pleased with mine.

I don't know whether you are new to Toyota or a devoted fan. What I can say is that I work for a component manufacturer and if you get business from Toyota you've had to work very hard to achieve that. All vehicle manufacturers are very demanding on their suppliers and none stand still, but Toyota are one of, if not the most demanding customer. I think this tends to get reflected in the vehicles.

Hope that helps. Please be patient with us. We are generally a friendly lot in the RAV section of TOC, but most on here have day jobs and it may take a while to get replies.

Cheers
