Bures ,pay & Play Off Road Pit

hi everyone

me and my mates often go to a off road pay & play site in bures in suffolk,it is a 52 acre dissused sand pit,now i know the rav is not a out and out 4x4,but it is a good place to just see what it is capable of.

if anyone wishes to,go to..'www.bures-pit.co.uk' and you will see mainly,..ahem,sorry for swearing, land rovers and various other 4x4's seeing what they can do.

a fair few suzukis and other small 4x4's go there as well

its a bit of a free for all with some real old bangers and some very new machines, steep hills, water, mud, ruts, sand and loads of others who will gladly pull you out or give you a hand if you become embarrissingly stuck in the smallest of holes.

it isnt a course you follow, you just drive where ever you think you can go and try your luck

it costs £30 per vehicle ,opens form 10am til 4pm, loos on site, burger van, hundreds of 4x4's there at most meets, site owners are totally disclaimed from any vehicle problems whatsoever ( you just have to be carefull)

i have no photos of mine in there as yet im afraid, too busy enjoying myself

I'd guess one of the few things you need to watch is the level of the air intake.

One of my fellow RAV4 3SGTE turbo owners uses his for flying over sand-dunes in Australia - fancy trying the same somewhere here!!

i would love to try 'duning' but alas we have no such thing here, but bures pit is the closest ive found to having a unique place to suit any 4x4.

i did drive through the small lake at bures many years ago with a black,rav4 nrg,but it was a 2.0 vvti petrol 51 reg,i got through it....just,water over bonnett and water draining from vertually everywhere when i came out.

got it on film though

just a shame you cant upload 'videos' on this forum

it was good fun, just had to ' keep going' when i got to about 20" deep,'lake' was about 50m across.

with a very very sandy mud base,as it is a dissused pit

would never do it again though, lost my 'bottle' a bit now, and may have ruined that rav, eventually part ex'd it for a land cruiser colorado 'y' reg,and that went wrong within a week,so 'swapped' that for a brand new yaris 05 reg,had that for about 3 months than spotted my current rav on dealership forecourt, had it ever since and its been a gem

Not planning on taking your current RAV4 there then? sounds like fun.

I think the aur intake on the RAV4.2 Petrol is pretty high up actually looking around under the bonnet, but they do get fitting in stupid places - my HR-V had the air intake at the lowest point of the front bumper right by the left wheel - not sure it you could get any lower

hi hoovie

i have been wanting to actually drive my d4d in their for months now,i have friends who i jump in with and we take turns in a old jeep 4.0 liter.

we go all over the place with it,normally getting stuck and winching ourselves out,we also have a old suzuki sj,which is not at all road legal,we tow it there on a trailer, then just have serious fun.it is roll caged and 4" lifted, chunky tyres, bucket seats with full harnesses, ready for when we turn it over, which often happens.he he he.

have attched a pic of suzuki ,hope file size isnt too big

i am not afraid to 'try' my luck with rav,but as it is day to day transport i just cant risk it,as you may see from my album i do put it through some good suspension challenges, and go green laning in it but this is done very slowly,so its often 'off road' but far more controlled
