Although the 190 (VVTLi) is based on the 140 (VVTi) they are in fact fairly different engines and therefore you can't just make a 140 into a 190 as such. They have different blocks and different heads, with the 190 having an extra function built into the inlet cams to enable them to open further after a certain point in the engine revolutions.

There are however supercharger kits that take the 140 up to 190 and beyond. In fact Toyota did a limited run of supercharged versions.

Theres also plenty more on the internet despite these two links.

Hope that has helped explain it somewhat!

My lovely Celica; I wonder where she is now? :(

As sjrainsford says, conversion of a 140 into a 190 isn't really a practical proposition; unless you're Yamaha that is.

The better options would be to find power some other way, or else trade a 140 in for a 190.

Or if your budget is unlimited go the Fensport GT4 route; that's got to be the ultimate Gen 7.

The 190 engine has a higher rev limit, 9,000 rpm. Although I rarely get that high, but it is fun to get to near 70mph in second gear! :D
