Like to say hi to you all,

Anyway since i have played the NFS games i have been obsessed with the toyota corolla for some reason.

As i have come into some money for the first time in a while and have my driving test soon i thought i would treat myself.

I was just wondering if anyone had ever owned one...

Im talking old school 1980-1990s not modern bubble car looking corolla.

Was wondering what they are like to insure and run and use day to day etc..

Also is it worth importing one or trying to find one in the UK?

Any common faults i know about some cars slip out of 5th gear.

I like the look of the AE86 but i doubt ill get insured on one, anyone now what the best model is to buy?

Also what sort of price am i looking to pay in the current market?

Any help would be very grateful

regards

dan

Find a nice AE92 Gti-on a H/J plate.

In todays market should get a good one for less than £1K maybe.

Strong engines but watch for rust-around arches, under rear windows and on tailgate.

I had two of these and a older AE82 Gt and all were extremly reliable machines and only one had a fault and that was just the clutch.

Might not be as bad as you think.

i passed my test aged 17 back in 93 and my first car was a Escort 1.6 diesel worth 3150 but i had to pay £1100 insurance.

When i turned 18 6 months later i bought myself a Corolla gti worth £3750 but only paid £750 insurance-fully comp.

A couple of years ago was gonna buy the wife a Civic Type R but got quoted £5K insurance-but shopping around got it down to £1600.

if going for a AE92 gti then i cant see any point in importing one mate just get on pistonheads and autotrader.

There will be some nice ones still out there.

I always liked em in the sage green colour but was very rare-also looked great in grey but again quite rare.

Yeah-if your after a AE86 then you are looking at silly money for a old car now-the newest your gonna get is 21 years old now and because of the popularity in the drifting circles they fetch high prices.

If i was in the market for a corolla now id prob get a 20v Levin but still FWD.

Looks decent enough but unless you see it in the flesh its hard to tell.

But they are great cars and the 4AGE is a brilliant engine

I know everybody has their own opinions but i thought the AE101 series that replaced the EE90 were ugly as sin.

Yer it looks ok but IMO just not as good as the car it replaced.

no doubt it goes like hell with the 20v 4AGE.

Main reason is that i worked for Toyota from 92-99 and when the 1.8 GXi came out as the hotest car in the corolla range i had a AE92 at the time nd it was so much better than the GXi.

Ah Yeah the Gxi was a big disappointment as the AE92 Gti successor. No 4agepictureforum.jpg WTF! Toyota. The AE92 Gti are a fantastic car always loved them but It's the Corolla FxGt 20V with it's twin guns at the back and Itb's singing away at the front that does it for me. Cheers bud...
