Like to say hi to you all,

Anyway since i have played the NFS games i have been obsessed with the toyota corolla for some reason.

As i have come into some money for the first time in a while and have my driving test soon i thought i would treat myself.

I was just wondering if anyone had ever owned one...

Im talking old school 1980-1990s not modern bubble car looking corolla.

Was wondering what they are like to insure and run and use day to day etc..

Also is it worth importing one or trying to find one in the UK?

Any common faults i know about some cars slip out of 5th gear.

I like the look of the AE86 but i doubt ill get insured on one, anyone now what the best model is to buy?

Also what sort of price am i looking to pay in the current market?

Any help would be very grateful

regards

dan

Welcome to TOC, Mate & I hope you enjoy your stay with us.

To answer your query - I have a Corolla Executive GL. Being a 1991 model it is slightly outside your specs. However, there were no bids on e-bay, so I texted the seller & offered him his reserve of £400, sight unseen. He accepted & was most helpful.

This was 4 &1/2 years ago, & I have had no trouble with her at all. She doesn't slip out of 5th (yet!) She had her MOT when I got her, but our lot wouldn't accept that, & I had to get an NCT (=MOT) done. Inspector congratulated me on my car & did likewise after 2 years on her 2nd test. Last time he found rust in the sills, so I had to get them welded & bring back , unpainted, for a visual.

They are not so plentiful on e-bay now, but there are some in the Car Sales Mags. If you go back through the postings on this forum, you will find Pics of mine & several people stating that they are like tanks & go forever. This is my 2nd one of this model.

The main problem is with rust in the sunroof. Mine is starting to go, & I have located a firm who will make & fit a replacement. I haven't priced it yet. The wallet is slim after the festivities :(

Good luck with you hunting

I ran a poll to find out if she was a classic. 2 votes got lost :P somehow. But if you search for "Is this car a classic" (I think) you will find comments & Pics

I "bumped" the Poll on my car for you to read.

There was another thread, but it must have been ages ago in Corolla forum
