1993 Mr2 Turbo 3sgte Ignition

My 2nd RAV4 conversion - thats got a 3SGTE fitted from a MR2 turbo 1993 model - ground to a halt on Christmas eve.

On checking, the guys at The Garage traced it down to a failed ignitor - ie the coil pack and linked unit that sends the volts to the disy cap.

The coil pack bracket was rusted and so was the coil pack itself so the iron core had rusted....as the plastic cover had cracked. Heres a photo of the top of the unit thats on my number 1 RAV conversion....

This unit works ok, but also shows some rust and the same crack around the plastic cover.

I've asked Parts King to give me a good price for these.... and we'll probably look to pick up a spare for number 1 RAV.

The one photod is mounted lower down the bulkhead, but has been mounted higher up on the 2nd conversion.

Is this something that is a regular failure??

The coil pack has a part number on it 90919-02197 PNC is 19500 in the picture as far as I can tell, the bit it sits on is just a bracket as per this picture (PNC number for the bracket is 19965)

Would you agree with that or is it another electrical componant?

Yup - thats one bit, but theres another bit mounted on the other side of the same bracket.I think its linked with the coil pack??

Not sure what that might be, wonder if it is some sort ballast resistor? Doesn't list anything specific for that model we spoke about

if the ignitor brkt is corroded that may be the problem as the ignitor itself needs to be grounded

try rigging up a ground wire to the ignitor ounting points and try again. :)

I have 3 coils and 1 ignitor in the garage will do you a good price for them if the part numbers match up..let me know

ok - thanks

I take the point about the bracket - we reckon the part gave way due to increased load caused by something......like a poor connection; aside of the corrosion on the iron core

And let me check the parts numbers of these bits on Monday ...

I've asked Kingo for a coil pack n bracket, but I'd feel happier if I had another for the first RAV...
