Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I have been looking through what rims I can get for the rolla and the ones that I really like are 16x8.5" at the smallest size there is.

I was wandering if you guys guys knew whether or not they would fit my GTI?

All help is appreciated thanks,

KPARRIS-JONES

P.S. could you also tell me what size the standard wheels are too. Cheers! :D

16"s would look fine on your GTI i had a set of BBS RS, they sat fine, but i was runiing strech rubbber so would cause less rubbing.

16" should be fine but with a 8.5" wide wheel you whould need to roll the archs what ET are the wheels you are going to get?

Yeah, You'l have to get the arches rolled. I had 7.5" wheels on my gti and they where as wide as id go before rolling the arch. (I personally wouldnt roll an arch on a GTI)

AFAIK, The standard wheels are 14x5.5.

Thanks for the advice guys,

I'll have to look elsewere as the rims that I want only come as 16x8.5.

I'm looking through BANZAI right now so that I can get some more ideas for rims.

thats strange i had a set of 9's on the rear with no arch work dont and they only stuck out a little, have sold them now but next wheels i get will still be 9's on the rear. So will be get arch done just so they clear the stretch tyre.

They had an orite offset et28 on the rear can not remember the front tho?

post a pic of your car to help us see what styles will suit and maybe someone will photoshop them for you.

did you get the tracking sorted - if you fitting new wheels do it at the same time. did you get that forged crank you posted about - again pics of the new crank would be great. i see you posted about a momo steering wheel, handbrake and gearknob that you got - would like to see some pics as i'm looking at changing the steering wheel in my GXi.

;)

You can get away with 17's on a Twinny but only if it isnt lowered. Howver, the arches are very likely to catch the wheels with 5 people in the car.

Looks ***** aswell, Get some 15/16's.

17's Gonna slow you down aswell and handel like a pig.

If you want to roll your arches youv got to get it done professionally, its not worth risking it your self. Basically you 'Bend' the arches out using a Arch roller or even a hammer. Most likely will need to do some paintwork after rolling your arches.

I can get the pics of the steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake handle aswell as the gear shift boot but things such as the crank will be dealt with later, I just wanted to get some contacts and know where it is that I can get my stuff from.

I'll get some pics when I lift the engine out to fit the clutch too.

Why do you want to remove the engine to fit a clutch? Just go under it and remove the gearbox

Yeah they are good.

MOMO are developing an airbag steering wheel as we speak so you shouldn't have to wait too long!

Why do you want to scan the block? Are you having any problems with your engine? Its hard to crack an engine block anyway. No point going threw all the hassel for nothing.

Also, Why are you bothering with going through the hassel with the crank? Unless your going for some INCREDIBLY high power their is no need to do any of what you are doing.

Doing a Crazy N/A 4age rebuild will cost silly money. Look on driftworks, Newera imports spent approx £6-7K getting a 4AGE rebuilt and are only running 200 BHP.

I want to make sure that it's fine and that it won't blow up some day!

I want to get a few horses back so I'm going to polish and clean the whole engine so that it functions perfectly when I get to driving.

I probably wont get a new crank but I will make sure that this one can handle the power if I decide to add it. :D

Sounds good, my rolla hasnt been lowered (yet) but I am planning to do this later on when I have a bit more cash ! Was thinking of dropping it 30mm? I do want to improve the handling of the thing, especially in this icy weather so i guess ill go with the 16's which require no rolling.

If I go with 16's will I get into trouble when I try to lower it by 30mm ?

As long as your wheel size including the tyre stays the same then I guess you'd be ok.

Its when you start to get wider tyres that the problems arise. :D

By the looks of things, the GTI could do with a bit more lowering than 30mm.

I've been looking at Ksports that get me 40-45mm lowering!

Get some pics of your rims aswell. ;)

Yeah, 16's will go on whilst being 30MM lowered.

16's look good on a Twinny.

Heres some pics of one of my old GTI's, lowered by 30/40MM with 16's.
