Carina E Electric Windows Problems

 This summer my electric window on my carina E stopped working. Thinking it would be like a Ford and possibly only wanted the regulator oiling i stripped down the door panel. But i had never seen such a mess what a bad design!, it had all got into a right tangle. I rang the Toyota dealer and it was £270 +vat for a new regulator/motor. I eventuly found a place where it was £40. But after a week this broke too, it was replaced and this time it lasted 5mins but because i did not try to use it after it broke i manage to save it and repair it. I am going to refit it today but not use it, I think it is the switch that is faulty, so do you know what controls the stopping of the motor? Note the window slides up and down freely. Have been told to put a small fuse in for now to stop the damage if its not quite right.

The repaired window regulator is now fitted and working but till i get time to strip down the switch unit i will stop the window just sort of the top and bottom. It could be just that the replacement regulator is badly made and not the switch unit that is faulty. I suspect what happens to these carina's is that when you wash the windscreen in the summer and the window is open, water drips due to the bad design of the water channel and might damage the switch unit? The other 3 windows are ok so would this surgest that the switch unit is ok? note the drivers side as that one shot lower fitted!

What type of operation is it, single or double? I.e. does it just go up and down only whilst holding the button, or can you press the button once and the window will go all the way up on it's own?

However, normally you should be able to drive the window against it's stops without causing much damage. You should just hear the motor labouring.

Its only auto down. The replacement part did look a little cheaply made and when it broke the top pully pull out of the slide. Therefore i drilled and tapped it and put a sort bolt through it and its a lot stronger now. Just hope it does not break the bottom pully next. But the winch side of it is better designed than the original Toyota one. Might when time test the current of that motor and put separate fuse in for that window.
