Help Please Would This Work Or Be Safe.

Hi All.

Have tried the local Toyota dealer for a new replacement spring for N/S headlight but its not a spare you can only get a new headlight for about £100 and I only need the spring that holds the dipped bulb in place, the old one fell out when I tried to change the blown bulb it has fell out and down onto the under body protection tray via a hole next to the Battery (I cannot see it).

To save getting the car up on ramps to remove the under body tray to find the spring or paying Mr T a small fortune to do it could I hold the bulb in place with packing the bulb cover with something like bubble rap as the bulb spring looks like it only keeps some pressure on the bulb to keep it in place, would this be safe ?

Is it easy to remove the under body tray and do I have to get the car on to ramps?.

Any help would be appreciated.

Car is a 03 Corolla 5 Dr diesel

heya mate,

this isnt an answer to your question, but could help. wouldnt a flexible claw such as this http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/...utomotive-tools holding a small magnet be able to stick down to where the spring fell and retrieve it?

I have both a fleible claw and a magnet but I cannot see the spring, I might try and remove the oil drain plastic under body cover and try to locate the spring that way, if I drive the car up some ramps that might help as you only have a small amount of space under the car not anought to work with.

It may have falled out if you have been driving as the undertray is not really large. I would however jack the car up get a torch and have a little look around carefully. If it will set you back a fair bit remove the Battery and air box and try getting a proper look down there. As for the spring if you cant find it pop to a breakers yard and pick up a headlight for cheap. Even if it is a pre facelift it can be from any corolla model t3,t2,t-spirit or a t sport.Could someone correct me if a pre facelift corolla has a different spring or something?

That would be the best option or there are headlights on eBay try and drop a best offer to some of the guys on there.

It will still be on the car as I tried to change the bulb on my drive and I have not driven the car since.

If I remove the Battery will any thing have to be re set.

Does any one know of a breakers yard in the Cannock or Walsall area that has a Corolla in.

Thats alright then should still be there or have a look around the driveway maybe aswell. If you remove the Battery i think your fav radio settings will go so you have to rechoose your stations...i think only some of the stereo settings go thats about it but you can just reset them. Things like treble and bass go back to 0...depending what you have set them on but they are easily sorted. Other than that nope nothing changes.

Are there any holes under the Battery that I could try with the magnet or flexi claw.

i would be amazed if you managed to get it behind the bumper.

if you take the Battery out you should be able to see it (seeing as you haven't driven it anywhere). Using bubble wrap is a bit of a fire hazard as the bulb will get hot and probably conduct some through backwards. i would try and find the clip or visit a local scrappy.

any E12 one will fit.
