Hi All, Iam looking at buying a new car and have narrowed it down to either an Auris , Civic or Focus. It will be late 08 registration and either 1.6 or 1.8 petrol 5 door.Any thoughts on which is the most reliable and overall best.

Auris again :D Why?

-Reliability: Auris is a new design but if it is going to be like corolla then nothing to worry about. I know we complained about some issues but Civic users complain much more. The list of recalls is really long too.

- I liked the console design and room inside. Civic is poky compared to Auris.

- Didn't like Civic ride (that could be subjective and just me :) )

- Price- Civic is just too expensive and the price is not really justified.

In my opinion it is a good car but I bought Auris.

Ford is really out of the equation. It is new 2008 model but I just don't believe Ford resolved all reliability issues that previous Focus had. I know as well that Ford dealer and customer service is nothing like Toyota.

That is my personal opinion but the choice is going to be yours.

As far as reliability is concerned i can only comment on the Auris.... although its not broke down on me yet, the Auris has many issues, so research the forums thoroughly before making a decision

Then go test drive all three & make your mind up from there.

toyota engines have a really good reputation on not breaking down, although there maybe a good few issue people are having about the auris you will realise that its towards the interior. nothing about engine or chassis.

so you wont be making a bad choice in choosing the auris but its your opinion on do you actually like the auris overall.

each to their own its said.

Dear Lee76

If you are looking for trouble just buy the Auris.

I have driven Toyota for over 30 years and I now own an Auris.

I have never ever had such a RUBBISH, which is called Toyota quality!! :censor: :censor: :censor:

Problems with the brakes. Agter more than 1 year problems not solved.

After 1 week new airco & heating unit.

Electric windows that stuck of which I have to live with.

I loose spontaniously plastic part form the cars.

You want some more ..???

I don't want a disappointed you, but if you want to buy a real Toyota, buy

a second hand one which has been made in Japan. That's QUALITY !!

Now I you want to have pleasure in driveing your car, buy another brand than Toyota.

For me this is the last one.

NEVER EVER a Toyota for me anymore :ffs: :censor: :ffs: :censor:

A lots of wishdom for you

:ffs: Farmer D I C K :ffs:

Dont buy any of the 3 options, instead buy a Kia Ceed or a Hyundai I30. for the following reasons:

Cheaper up front price

Better Residual value

Higher Specification

5 or 7 year Warranty

Cheaper to run when comparing like for like

Unless you are a Badge snob, the Auris makes no sense. Toyota need to work harder on this car.

Have a look at this Ceed vs Auris vs i30

Sorry but you compared Auris 2.0 diesel and i30/ceed 1.6 diesel- not much sense. Except that he said petrol car.

Lee76 you will find as may opinions as users on that forum. :D

Cheers Guys, Both Toyota and Honda have arranged a 24 hour test drive for me in their cars went to Fords but they did not want to know but they said I could have a test drive with a salesman for 20 mins or so.

IMHO all three are viable options, it really depends on which features and capabilities are appropriate for your intended use.

All three are competent modern cars, well made, reliable, economical. Driven reasonable and properly maintained all should provide many years of good service without major problems.

You'll find wildly differing opinions for all three ranging from wouldn't drive anything else to put em all in a pile and burn em, try not to take too much notice of extreme opinions either way. All manufacturers are quite capable of producing the odd "Friday afternoon nightmare" that gives problems, but really you need to be pretty unlucky to end up with one.

I bought an Auris in preferece to other makes/models based on my needs verses the available facilities, test drives, price and percieved dealer service. So far I have not been disappointed in any major way with my choice ... I can't understand why people keep harping on about the interior, I like it. Yes the glove boxes have no interior padding, but IMHO unless you keep handfuls of marbles in them it's such a minor gripe it's not worth mentioning. The handbrake position that seem to cause so much distress to some people I got used to in about 5 minutes ... I recently drove a Merc and had to read the handbook to even find the handbrake at all, but nobody seems to find that at all inconvenient. I do like the gear lever position a lot, very natural and nice to use.

It has a spacious pleasant cabin space, rear legroom is exceptional, headroom (important for me) is great, easy to find a very comfortable driving position (I'm tall and this is often a problem for me), is very relaxing to drive, has reasonable fuel economy, fine handling at normal public highway speeds, safe overtaking performance, plenty of luggage space, low wind noise at motorway speeds .... all with the added advantage of not being anywhere near the top of any car thief's most wanted list.

I realise you are looking at a 1.6 petrol and mine is a 2.0 diesel, so driving feel will probably be very different, but they are otherwise the same, and think general comments are still valid.

I can't really comment on long term reliablity as I've only had it for 2 months/2000 miles but so far nothing whatsoever has gone wrong, fallen off, squeeked or rattled.

I honestly don't have much negative to say, perhaps the road noise on some road surfaces is not the best, but I havent been particularly upset about it and would really have to do a direct comparison with other cars on the same stretch of road to say if they were any better. Mine is an SR with 17 inch wheels, the 16 inch wheel ones might well be better in this respect.

I researched and drove the other cars you are considering and had a hard time coming to a decision! At the end of the day it came down to what was most comfortable for me, best for my use, convenience of dealer location, and dealer confidence. The Civic driving position didn't quite suit, was a bit small inside to comfortably carry driver and 4 adult passengers, and was considerably more expensive. The Focus ... I seriously considered one ... but didn't go for it as the dealer only offered a short test drive, was quite far away and appeared indifferent when trying to negotiate a deal. The Auris won as it suited my use, comfort for me was the best of the three, the dealer is close by, appeared to actually care and want my business, and did a very good deal on the price. If the Ford dealer had been more helpful, offered a proper test drive, willing to do a better deal and more confidence inspiring I might have bought a Focus. I also looked at VW and Skoda but won't go there as you are not considering either.

IMHO the Auris is a fine car for the money and well worth serious consideration, I don't have any regrets about buying mine.

Apologies yes, I did miss that critical fuel type.

The Auris is a nice sound average car, perhaps some people who own them will struggle to have a non biased opinion after they have spent their money.

In my opinion the Auris is over priced and Toyota have rested on their laurels in creating an comparatively expensive car when compared with equal rivals. This isn't Toyota bashing, I just think they could do better for the price they are asking for the car especially when compared to the new Korean generation. If they dont they will be in trouble as sales will be lost, which is whats happening in other markets.
