Glue Marks On Dash

Hi All.

My wife bought a Yaris (2nd hand) a few months back and when she got it there were a few marks (which look like glue) on the dash.I'm guessing they are from either air fresheners or some sort of toys (there are marks on the rear windows made from suction cups too, which I can't seem to get rid of!). I was planning on trying nail varnish remover as I know this can shift glue but I'm not too happy about using it on a plastic surface.

Any suggestions would be great.

Many thanks and a Happy New Year.

DON'T USE NAIL VARNISH REMOVER !!!!!

It's acetone based and dissolves plastic. There are a few options you can try though.

1. Label remover - usually in an aerosol form ( get it at Staples etc ). This dissolves the glue but is fairly inert on everything else.

2. WD40 - spray it on, rub wih a cloth.

3. Methylated Spirits .

In my years of taking sticky stuff off, there seem to be 2 common types of glue used. One will come off with WD40, one with Meths. Both methods perfectly safe for the plastic underneath !

Hi B.S.

Cheers for that.I've already tried WD40, so I guess I'll need to look out the meths.

All the best.

I've always used lighter fluid, you know the kind that goes in a Zippo lighter. It contains naphtha and doesn't affect plastic. The major brands here in the US are Ronsonol and Zippo. It states on the bottle that it's good for removing labels and sticky residue.

Cheers junebug 1701.

I haven't gotten around to trying the meths yet but if that doesn't work I'll maybe give the lighter fluid a try.

Many thanks and all the very best.
