Hiya,

i have just driven my Toyota Hilux Surf 3.0d about 1 mile and have noticed the temperature gauge is upto maximum! When i noticed the temperature gauge was like this i drove about 1 mile home. I got out the car and there was steam coming from where i put water when filling the radiator up and a bubbling noise. it seems like its over heating (obviously) but i was wondering anyone had any ideas of what it could be? a mate of mine said it could just be that my thermastat is stuck????? but i feel it might be something more serious. Any help would be appreciated.

Ps forgot to say that my heating as also failed, there is only cold air being blown out. This as only happened since the car over heated.

Sounds like it could be a broken water pump.........if it was the thermostat then your heater would still work as the hot water runs around the heater matrix even when the thermostat is closed. I would say either your water pump or the drive belt that runs it is buggered.

Cheers crphilips, I think your probably right in what your saying because I have been recommended a mechanic that as basically said the same as you. Its the sort of answer i was wanting really because i had a BMW previously and had a similar problem and we eventually found the head gasket had gone! Hopefully its just the water pump, cheers mate.

shouldn't imagine it could be the head gasket.....your heater would still work unless there's absolutely no water in it. Just sound like the water isn't circulating....it'll be the pump.
