Aerial Mount On E12

Happy New Year everyone :)

Ok - I had a Richbrook 'sabre' aerial on my E12 Corolla Hatch. It was horrible and I was always meaning to change it. Anyway it was fitted with some loctite thread sealant (blue stuff not the red thread loc) to stop it being nicked.

Like a right ballon I allowed my 4yr old son to talk me into going through a car wash which proceeded to snap the aerial clean away from the mount. The screw from the aerial snapped flush so I now need to remove this before fitting a new aerial.

I've drilled a pilot and I'm waiting on some screw/bolt extractors from eBay. However should this fail to remove the screw because of the sealant how difficult is it to replace the whole mount?

Any instructions or pictures available on the web?

Thanks for any pointers

need to take the headlining down, once down its one nut holding it in.

Thanks for the reply

That sound like a real pain - is it easy enough to do?

Well the threadloc has done its job and the bolt extractor has failed to remove the screw.

Turns out that not only are these aerial bases not the cheapest thing in the world there are also two types - sat-nav and non sat-nav.

My car is a Corolla T3 D-4D 2004 on a 53 plate. It doesn't have sat-nav fitted. Due to the cost I'm going to get on from a breakers. Can I assume that my car will have the non sat-nav aerial base? Is there any way without removing it to tell?

Cheers

i would give parts king an email with your chassis number.

i would adopt a different approach and actually try drill the end of the aerial out, clean the thread up and then put your new aerial in. extractors need quite a lot to purchase on.

I don't want to trouble Parts-King as I have already troubled him for the price for a aerial base which he kindly supplied with a TOC discount. But as the Toyota retail for the base is £128 +vat I had to decline the purchase even with the TOC discount - Thanks again Parts-King.

I've got a couple of quotes from online breakers but obviously if I get the wrong one - I'm stuck with it.

Now that I'm facing replacing the base and therefore can be a bit more aggressive I'm going to have another go at removing the broken stud. First I'll try the extractors again. This time I will heat the screw with a soldering iron (I've read heat can break the threadloc bond).

If the extractor still fails I'll try the drill out and tidy method. Does anyone know what the thread is for the aerial so I can get a tap if necessary?

Managed to get the snapped bolt out. :yahoo:

The tip I found on the web about heating the thread worked a treat. The threadloc melted and the bolt extractor did its thing.
