Hello all,

Very useful in the past, just hope someone has an idea that isn't too costly, credit thingy n that.

First gear very tight to get into, same with third. Gears used to be very smooth but now not so. Progressivley getting slowly worse and would like to sort it out before it gets so bad I can't get first gear.

I have topped up the brake and clutch fluid as thought that would do the trick but no good. Also, problem is the same whether the engine is cool or hot.

Any ideas for diagnosis would be much appreciated.

Best car I have ever owned and as long as it's not listening, still going strong with over 170K on the clock. B)

check the brass bushes in the ends of both selector rods that attatch to the gearbox selector, they become oval inside and make gearchanges hard/awkward - best bet is to swap them out with roller bearings , your clutch maybe on the way out too though ??

bearings here - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Toyota-MR2-SW20-3SGT...A1%7C240%3A1318

Many thanks, I will purchase these and let you know how it goes. Any idea how hard they are to fit, I'm handy with a spanner, but no mechanic!

fairly easy if you remove 1 or 2 things in the way , make sure to use the washers provided and in the correct order , the clip to hold them in is the one fitted to the car now, dont lose it., use a g-clamp to press them in to the holder or place the bearing over the pin and press the holder down onto the bearing make sure its square.

me being a bit of a short ar** i jacked the car up at the front so i could reach
