Closed Air Induction Kits

Hi guys,

as some of u may know i have been looking into fabricating a metal box enclosing the typhoon filter head and thus blocking it from the heat of the engine bay..and from this box ill feed through a cold air feed. Therefore hopefuli giving better gains..

Since being on the look out i have come across the Apollo closed air induction kit (please see link below)

europerformance.co.uk/pages/products/category_results.mhtml?category=knapollo;manufacturer=kn;sub_category=1

Now on first glance this looks like the perfect induction kit.. However i cant help but wonder that no ones heard of it or used it which obviously worries me.

Wat do u all think? Opinions please?

The actual hole on the filter seems really small.. Do u think it could b quite restrictive.. But surely K&N must have thought of that?

I too have been contemplating fabricating an induction box as i can't find a heat shield for an A'PEXi anywhere :(

After speaking to the chaps at Nengun they pointed me to this site which provides some useful tips on fabricating one

Clicky

to be fair gaz a heat shield does sweet F all as hot air will jst go rnd it lol

fabricating a box is ur best way forward or this infuction kit..

called a few metal fabricators in my area and they were happy to help.. u should try and find some in ur area.

wat im thinking is fitting the head of apollo to body of the typhoon.. it would look pretty sweet! but im not sure if it would provide better gains?

had a closer look at the k&n appolo just now it looks like a good piece of kit but just think it looks very restrictive unless you can get the cold air feed pipe attatched to the box somewhere were it will get proper cold air. That will mea cutting into the bumper or front vents. Something to think about.

The other option would be to guage interest from Typhoon owners and maybe see about a bulk order of induction boxes.

That way a metal fabricator might be able to offer a better price and split the development time cost out ;)

Shame there's not enough CTS A'PEXi owners on here :(

good plan. but guaging interest from this forum is like trying to draw blood from a stone..

farhan its slightly easier with the tte bumper as there are alot more holes to play with..so i dont need to cut any holes. ckman done a good CAI on the tte bumper..

spoke to scot at K&N.. hes got the apollo kit on his mr2 he couldnt recommend it enough

if you remove the pipe from the air pump and put a breather on that. then you can fabricate a box around your typhoon with its feed hole being where the air pump used to draw from. that way you are sucking air from the wing then. i did that with my stock airbox - its defo the best place to draw air from. got a small gain from that. if you do that your sri will be as/nearly as effective as a proper cai. or just get a cai?!

The CTR has quite a popular closed air intake the gruppe m, if any of you have seen in fitted to the CTR a cold air feed is attached to the plastic part where the wipers are, is like a kinda scoop it looks pretty decent and it is a decent piece of kit. I'v tried looking for a gruppe m for the t sport but was unsuccessful in finding one.

Why not just fit a couple of cold air feed pipes? Since i did this the Air Filter has never become hot.

Are you going through with it alone or is there a group buy thing gonna happen?

Not unless they have a british HQ.

I think that they deliver them from the US only which sometimes stops group discounts for some reasons.

Just personal experiance. :D

shaun im thinking of doing two cold air feed pipes this weekend. Let me know if you want to pop down and give it a try out. Most of my induction kit is covered by the heat shield its only the bottom part which has one cold air feed. Might give it two cold air feeds from different parts of the engine. Right now its coming from the bottom of the engine bay near the ground. Might try and feed it through the front vents somehow. Also will be fitting 10k hids this weekend bro and giving the car a good clean over. Let me know what you doing on saturday.
